A friend of mine who is a Sgt with Nottinghamshire police has a great story of going to visit a house in Strelley (not a salubrious area) and saw printed on A4 sheets and taped to the inside of the windows of a council house 'Lord Strelley lives here'.(note I'm not demeening anyone who lives in a council house, just pointing out that there is a range of fuckwits people who will waste money on titles, personalised bnumber plates and the like)
Crazy that the White Lion has gone up for sale, they were on the Tour route, and I assumed they would have made enough money that weekend for a decade!
Crowdfund purchase?
They managed to sell Blencathra for a tidy sum even though it only had limited grazing rights, you did get to call yourself LORD of THRELKELD though. You can imagine plenty of people the idea of owning a lake in the lake district would appeal to. You know, they drive jags or beemers with short personal plates, live in Berkshire or Surrey in a converted farmhouse, etc, etc.
Shirley you don't pay VAT on land? I can see you'd pay VAT on top of the auctioneer's fees 1.5%? so £3750 plus £750 VAT.The Stamp would be 2% of the price >£125,000 so £2500
