Anyone know if screw in type gas cannisters (coleman, msr etc) are available any where near Magic Wood?

I found one screw in gas canister in a shop in Thusis, It was up a side street off the main road (mainly a hardware shop inside). However... it didn't seal properly and I nearly blew up my legs and my tent! We had to stick with using the blue gas canisters that you pierce along with those bargain stoves (the name escapes me). I can't be certain if it was a poorly made canister or whether the seal on my stove is dodgy

Really don't take screw type stoves to Swiss, its a real pain to find the gas, and most people give you very odd looks when you show them your stove that has definitely worked in the UK for years.

Either buy a stove out there or get one here that pierces or takes the pierce-and-seal-with-a-rubber-cap type.

Dont buy your gas from campsites, go to any of the supermarkets, as they wont charge a fortune.

We had friends that went out before us and told us they got gas for their stoves fine. They just omitted to say that they had to replace their screw stoves with new ones that would fit the gas they bought fine.

Being that is was a bank holiday weekend, we spent 2 days without food as we bought pasta and rice and porridge oats before realizing this fact.

There seem to be two types of stove in Swiss - the piece and the pierce-and-replace-a-cap.

We confused the latter for a screw in type stove, which may well be what Richie got confused with too.

I didn't see meths anywhere either, but if you found a hardwear store i'd have thought they'd have some if you have a trangia.

Not too sure what you mean by this. Is it like the old camping gaz pierce fittings and will it fit the camping gaz ones?

I think they're called 'easy-clic' by Camping Gaz. They're not the self-sealing screw on type, but are a twist on and seal with a plastic cap.

I am pretty certain you can buy cheap (<£4) adapters for screw on stoves which allow you to attach the push on resealable gas canisters (Camping Gaz)...they won't work on the pierce style canisters mind. Gooutdoors or the like may have them....
