Is magic wood worth the detour from Ailefroide? I'll be at Ailefroide for a few weeks with friends and we were going to head to Ceuse and sport climb, gradually moving in the Pyrenees/Spain direction but quite fancy checking out Swiss bouldering. Would I be wasting my time getting there for late August and will there be much climbable until mid-late September?

I really want to go but at the same time, I don't want to visit the place when it's massively out of condition. Thanks for any advice.

Some non-climbing friends of mine have booked an apartment for a family holiday in August in Averstal, and I will be joining them there for a few days with my family. "We've heard there's some bouldering", says they, and lo & behold they would seem to be right.

I am a not particularly brave punter operating around the 6B mark, and everything I've heard about MW involves big grades, scary landings, acres of pads and hordes of spotters. Is it even worth me packing my shoes and - small - mat for the odd (solo, spotterless) afternoon away from family activities?

Starting to look like I'll be getting there for the start of Sept until the start of Oct, then heading Albarracinwards. What's the best time of year for Magic Wood and surrounding areas. I'd love to check out Cresciano too but read that it has to be cold to go there... True?

Thanks

September is good in Magic Wood.
Cresciano will be too hot but some areas in Chironico could be fine.
