It's a fucking circus and it's not going to change so they may as well make it safer. With the conveyor belt of fixed ropes already in place I don't see what difference a ladder really makes. As the comments say, might as well install a giant lift and have done with it. Anyone who wants an actual mountaineering challenge can go climb somewhere else.
