The Snivelling
March 18, 2013, 08:27:14 pm
...Shits!!!

(Thought this forum was the most appropriate for this one)

So.. 4 full days into a bout of dio...diah...diare..... the shits.  Worst I've ever had.

About hourly on average and shows no signs of abatement which I'm starting to get concerned about.  Least I'm not vomming and can keep water etc down.  Had a fever on Saturday morning, but that's cleared up. Hardly eaten anything bar a few rounds of toast today and yesterday.  Managing to not feel too dehydrated and have been taking the dioralyte sachets.  Up hourly through the night.  Feel well spacey/weak.

(on the up side - I've lost 5 pounds)

Reckon its a virus thing as a quite a few kids at school are off with the same/similar.

Could do with being at work tomorrow so - to my questions..

Should I be eating, or fasting.  (got no appetite but toast stays down).
If I do eat, what should I be eating.

Should I take some Imodium (I fear it will just delay things) or should I just let it run its course.

At what point do I go to the docs about it.

Any advice out there.

4 days you should be heading there to morrow. Be prepared put a little sample in a sterilised container.
Its better than being given the standard NHS stool sample pot with its mini spade thing which is like the thing you eat ice cream with at the cinema. Try scooping diarrhoea up with that.

As you say avoid immodium unless you need a temporary reprieve. Stay hydrated. I prefer crackers to toast.

Forgot to say as a Teacher you should be staying of work for 48 hours after your symptoms clear up i.e about a 3 on the Edinburgh stool chart.

Ive been forcing down as much Marmite on toast as I can eat and drinking ginger ale when i can face it (mainly water though)
if its not better now though then docs would be a good idea I think

...as in still shooting the shit?

(Can't grumble about the aptness of topic for forum. Can I recommend mashed potato, white rice, ricecakes, a bit of hardboiled egg, and clear fluids? Easy to eat, bind a bit, and don't hurt too much as they come through. I lived in Turkey for a time.)

It'll mostly just be water loss from the shits and loss of your muscle's glycogen stores from not eating....afraid you'll gain pretty much all of it back after a day or two of eating.

1 or 2 lbs might be fat loss, but that'll be about it.

I know   :'(

Not been this light for ~20 years though.  I can 'feel' the difference somehow.  Feel light on my feet.
