Getting to J Tree on public transport
March 18, 2013, 04:48:26 pm
Heading out to Joshua Tree at the start of April. Leaving from San Diego and if I can't get a lift was going to get a bus to Banning. Anyone got any beta for getting from Banning to Joshua Tree/ 29 Palms or is hitching the best way?

If there's a better way to get there then let me know! Its a long way to walk.

Cheers.

If you really can't afford a hire car (cheap in the States), then get yourself to Joshua Tree and hang about at the climbing shop on the corner - you'll soon get a lift up to the Hidden Valley campsite. Just make sure you get up there and bagsy yourself a space before the weekend rush.

Afraid I've no idea how you'd get from Banning to Joshua Tree, assume there's some kind of usual American horror show bus, but perhaps a post on SuperTopo or Mountain Project would get you a ride.

When exactly are you going F/W?

I'm working out of Pasadena at the moment, have a car and trying to get out climbing at the weekends. If you could get here, I could potentially give you a lift to JTree, especially if you've got a rack with you and fancy a weekend climbing with an injured, ageing has-been.

I've not passed my driving test yet (only had one lesson), I can probably drive better than Will though.

Hi Stu, i'm tied up until the 31st March so my plan was to head out and meet dunnyg in Joshua Tree village on the 1st April. I was hoping to return to San diego on the 12th. I'm only bringing the small amount of cams I own and draws as dunnyg has the actual rack. I'm leaving just after a weekend and returning just before one which doesn't really help much...

Gosh! Mel's certainly picked up some new tricks in Cali. Enjoy!
