Possibilities and options are endless.
Start by defining what it is you wish to achieve....
Is it a forums, blog, static information, user editable content (e.g. wiki).
If its a blog consider one of the following...
http://www.blogger.com/
http://wordpress.com/
http://www.tumblr.com/
Forums are more complex, and will likely require you to have a server to host them on.
If you're not familiar then using WordPress for static information is also a good idea.
If you want a wiki try one of those listed at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_hosting_services
Wetpaint
(free wiki hosting) might be a good choice. Its used for the
Dinorwig Slate Wiki
and
North Wales Limestone Wiki
.
Be prepared for a lot of reading of documentation as I don't use any of these (I installed
DokuWiki
on my Network Attached Storage unit and serve it up using
Lighttpd
with port-forwarding on my router to direct requests to it, but I very much doubt you want to bother with that as its quite involved.).

Hi tomtom.
I am very much at the want to stage. But it's time dependant. After yesterdays awful government announcement of the bullshit badger cull, i want a site for climbers against the cull.
I don't think UKB would want me having a thread on here, so want to set up a site experienced it. Invoke Harold Drasdo, Ed Drummond, climbers rigging for twyford down anti road protesters etc (if you were one me the climbers working for the bailiffs pulling protesters out of trees, then you're still hated all these years later)
any set up help wanted?

Id use some sort of third party software - as Slackers suggested - a blog or blogging site.
You might find it easiest (and has biggest impact) to set up a Facebook page?

Would it not be more productive if there were a unified movement of climbers/surfers/walkers/MTBers/BASE jumpers/road cyclists/swimmers/badminton players/archers i.e. everyone against it rather than lots of fractionated groups against it?
To that end, what already exists?

There's already widespread condemnation.
We as climbers can be another group voicing our. Opposition. Every community adding a voice feeds in to the campaign and increases the pressure.
Can you help!? How do i set up a climbers against the cull Facebook page? Can you help me set one up? If you know how and want to help, just do it and put link up here.
Cheers
ps if you climb in gloucestershire or somerset and come across piles of what looks like dog or cat biscuits in next 3 months, take them away and piss around area to keep badgers away. It's probably pre baiting.

I don't use Farcebook so can't help on that front.
I don't see that lots of small groups is any better than one larger one, its surely down to the total number of any individuals. I'm probably missing something obvious in thinking like this though.

On Facebook its piss easy...
Assuming you are a member (sorry if not - you may have to grasp the thistle..) then on the LH side of your screen there should be something that says groups.. click on it and there will be a button at the top saying 'create group'.
Its that easy. Add a picture, some text etc.. then solicit your faceache friends to join (send invites) and get people to 'like' your page and that will spread the word.
Of course you have to abide by facebooks T&C's - so probably best to keep language fairly clean - and basically keep things off there that might offend people - but otherwise thats it.

i think Facebook may be way to go. When its running, please visit, like, and follow.
Latest news:
coop and m&s have confirmed if cull goes ahead they won't source any milk in cull area. Tell your shop you agree.
Support the buy Welsh campaign. Boycott English farm produce. Don't buy from badger killers.
Sign up for night patrols if it goes ahead. See your local hunt sab group.
