Barth...elona, eating and stuff
March 18, 2013, 02:41:11 pm

Bit of a long shot but thought I'd plug into the hive and see what it throws up.

Off to Barcelona this weekend (sans kids) for the good ladies birthday.

Would ideally like to have a good idea about where we are going to eat on Saturday night, to save the usual trekking around pondering and ultimately the stress of having to choose one, only to find its a bit shit and over priced (as happened to us in manchester recently).

Thinking of something equivalent (in terms of poshness and price) to Thyme/Milestone etc in sheffield rather than The Old Vicarage or Fischers in Baslow.

Google is just too overwhelming, and I'm not sure I trust the 'Top Ten' restaurants in Barcelona lists either.

Any ideas.

Also - Any good ideas for other stuff to do, other than booning around e.g. if its pissing it down.

Los caracoles. Off le rambla is really good not cheap and I don't know how it compares to the Sheffield place but we had a really nice time. It's quite famous and has a lot of history I'd defiantly recommend it.

You could try Passeig del Born.  It is a really nice pedestrianised street you can just wander down dipping into places serving Pintxos and very nice red wine for quite good prices.  There is also a cuban style coctail bar on this street which is a must visit.  Their strawberry mojitos and Pisco sours are awesome.  There is one particularly good Pintxo restaurant on this street serving the best morcilla negra I have had but I can't remember the name of that or the coctail bar.  If I remember I will let you know.

If you want reasonbly priced tapas away from the main touristy spot get the Metro to Joanic and there are a lot of restaurants there.

Can Culleretes in the Gothic Quarter is pretty good ........ Local cuisine, not too pricey and it's had a lively atmosphere each time I've been there .........

One of the oldest in Europe I believe and always worth the wait for a table (go early). After your fourth or fifth visit, the "Strolling Minstrels" may get a little tedious...

Ok the great Pintxos place is called Euskal Etxea on Carrer Moncada.  Their choice of Pintxos is amazing and there Rioja is very good.  Might be worth going for lunch if you want a proper sit down meal in the evening.

The best food I had in Barcelona was in the market at a tapas bar. Not overly helpful to this thread but well worth a visit, if you can find a spare stool.

Las siete portes.
A bit pricey, very crowded go early or late or book. Best paella in town.

The coctail place is called Cockteleria El Copetín by the way.
