It was grim and it was hard to keep the faith I can tell thee. Thankfully patience pays off for us all.
It's funny with regards to weight as I don't think I look heavy yet I am. I wondered further - when I was born I weighed 10lb 2oz and figured I might have a dense bone structure. Probably not and the midweek pints and 20 hour a day desk job probably did it. Time to pay the dietary price now!
I'd guess if you're going to be up in the snow you'll need all the ale you can get though no? No idea about the number of calories expended ice climbing or winter mountaineering but it has to be considerable.
