Samba - free mobile broadband
November 14, 2012, 02:44:32 pm
There was an offer on Money Saving Expert today where you could get a SIM from Samba for a quid (normally £5) using code MSE1.
You watch (or play in the background while doing something else) adverts online to earn data allowance.

It uses the Three mobile network, I've ordered one to use in a laptop, should be able to watch enough ads in the background to build up a bit of an store for the once in a blue moon I'll need it.

Anyone had any experience with Samba, they look quite new?
I'll post back here once I've got the SIM, watched some ads (which you can do before you get your SIM) and tried it out.

If you get one via my link I get some more data allowance too  ;D

I doubt you'll be able to watch them in the background, I do a similar thing to get Nectar points and you actually have to watch the adverts as there are little pop ups every 15 seconds or so which you have to click on, if you don't click on every pop up then you don't get the rewards as it resets the video back to the beginning.  That's not to say it's not woth doing but if it's a similar scheme then you will have to actively watch the screen rather than just leaving them running in the background.

How do you get it to work on a laptop if it's a sim?  Will it not only work in a phone?

I've not actually watched any ads so far, all have run in the background.

No pop ups, sometimes there is a button to click at the end of the vid but this doesn't seem to time out (20 minutes away from my machine)
There have been 20 second vids all the way up to 10 minute ones.

I 'earned' 150mb yesterday and about the same again today so have 1/4gig of data allowance, for the time I use it I reckon that 4 days 'viewing' a month should do me.

It's a SIM so you need a 3g tablet, dongle, phone or a laptop with a 3g card in it.
My thinkpad has a 3g module built in so I'll just slap the sim in and leave it, if I had a tablet or get one in the future then I'll stick it in that.

That's pretty good then!  Well better than my Nectar crap. :)

Time will tell i suppose, will be interesting (once I have the SIM) to see if the data allowance is calculated fairly

So I've been doing this for a while now and have over a GB of data credit (see below)....

You can just run the ads in the background, probably takes an hour per day average to watch them all, I reckon you could be quicker with this but I just set them running and check back after a while to set the next one going.

Got the sim, it works fine, connects in my mobile broadband card in my thinkpad with no problems (other than the usual linux fail and subsequent messing around involved with any 'new' things).
Works fine in an android phone too and connects without issue.

Credit earned is below, as you can see the amount you can gain per day varies based on what they have available at the time.
A lot are duplicates.

Total                  1134.00 MB
14 November   154.00 MB
15 November   150.50 MB
16 November   168.00 MB
20 November   220.00 MB
21 November   91.00 MB
22 November   84.00 MB
23 November   136.50 MB
26 November   130.00 MB
