Moonboard
October 19, 2012, 10:52:41 am
This is probably in the wrong place but can anyone thats built a Moonboard (or similar) give me an idea on costs (not including holds, bolts, etc.)? It would have to go outside so if anyone has gone this pictures would be great too. There one on the Moon website down in Brighton, which is basically the idea that I am going for. Anyone give me a rough timescale that it took them to construct would be a big help too.

A friend built one for me a few years ago using the moon spec, IIRC all the wood was £115 total, £10 on screws and £25 on t-nuts. They made it over 3 days (at a leisurely pace), t-nutting, frame and then panels. It compares in size to the motherboard at the works. Can't help you with it being outside as I used a dining room.

A friend of mine built one in the lodge of the Renaissance villa of his multi-millionaire fiancee. It took him just a weekend in three guys. The lodge is closed by big windows so the board is really indoors.

That does sound pretty sweet. Not sure I could afford to do that though.... unless my wife lets me have a multi-millionaire girlfriend as well!!!

Banana fingers have a picture on there home page of what happens if you don't treat the wood on a board outside.

Yeah.... I've seen that picture! I was hoping someone would be able to inspire with a story about how they built one and it was piss and lasted ages even in the shittest of Derby winters!

Don't think it would be that hard to make one after all most of the info's on the moon site. Recently made a small wall on the side of climbing frame for my lad. Used 18" WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) ply and gave it a few coats of a wood preservative. So far so good.

How about sheeting the back/top then covering in something like shed roofing felt?

Should only take a weekend unless you're gonna go propper Gucci and stick sides and doors on it.

I like the roofing felt idea and I was gonna stick a tarp on the sides (maybe) but not going too overboard or I will just end up making another shed.
