Shoulder physios
June 24, 2012, 12:07:39 pm
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of shoulder physios in the Nottingham area.

Felt something 'go' at the wall yesterday, seems to be some sort of rotator cuff problem, pain on the top front of the shoulder under certain movements, sometimes accompanied by an unpleasant clicking as a tendon rearranges itself (a result of swelling?).  Currently just icing/resting it, but as I know these can cause all sorts of problems if not sorted I am anticipating trying to get to see a physio earlier rather than later (am I being paranoid, should I just wait?).

A quick google threw up this guy Martin Scott who seems to be pretty keen on shoulders and also works in a clinic which is fairly convenient for me, so unless anyone has anything bad to say/particularly strong recommendations of anyone else I am going to book in with him.

Before I manage to see someone I was also wondering if anyone knows, anecdotally or otherwise, if I should be trying to avoid putting my shoulder through the motions that cause it to click/hurt?  At the moment I am trying to use it as normally as possible to try and keep it fully mobile/lightly stretched.  Any suggestions of shoulder friendly activities (keep it clean) to do to stop me going mad while not climbing welcomed, can I still deadhang, plank ...  :-\ ?

A non-physiotherapist writes:
If a rotator cuff muscle is impaired dead-hanging may not be the best idea - movement may not be properly controlled and you're more likely to exacerbate impingement, and any tendon inflammation needs bringing down, not increasing so rest and ice will be more helpful in that case. You need to be nice to it and see someone. Anyone linked to/recommended by a local rugby club? -their shoulders get a hammering.

Thanks, rest and ice is working, booking appointment now, so I can be properly assessed and told what I should/shouldn't be doing.

Anyone linked to/recommended by a local rugby club?

No, the guy whose website I linked to, maybe it just means he worked in a bar they also worked in before they were famous?  It appear Phil Pask works in Northampton in what looks like a pretty handy physio clinic.

It seemed to make sense to go to a guy who does nothing but shoulders, given how complicated they are you would hope more experience=more chance of a good diagnosis, rung in requesting an appointment, will see how I get on.

Ah, I didn't read your OP correctly.

I saw Matt Lee at Witty, Pask and Buckingham post shoulder surgery (skiing injury) and he was brilliant. Really made a big difference and I managed to get back out for the next season no problems. It was a bit bizarre sat in a waiting room with Paula Radcliffe though.

I can’t help with recommendations in your area but hope you get it sorted soon-ish!
