Bouldering in the Murcia Region of Spain
December 10, 2011, 02:39:42 pm
Hi,

Just been visiting the parents in law in the southern part of the Murcia region of Spain. Found a really nice local bouldering venue which is worth checking out if you find yourself in the area. Going over again in Feb and will be checking out some of the other local venues.

Details can be found at www.rockclimbblog.com

Thanks

I have a few topos for the area that I got from a guy who lives out there, my folks also live near Murcia so I was checking out what was avaliable.  I'll see if I can dig them out and let you have a look, if you're out there regularly you might as well get the use out of them too. :)

Here you go, not much but this site might be useful:  http://www.murciaclimb.com/  It’s not the best layout or perfect to use but you can get info on various crags by clicking on the interactive map.

And for any climbing shoe repairs you may need, this guy was recommended to me:
http://www.reparacionespiesdegatoelgato.com/

I also have a lot of stuff like this saved in various places if you’re up for having a look about and checking things out:

Quote
“When you get to Ricote village/pueblo, look for a small Bar called El Valle in the main street
Basically, if you find the Bar El Valle, carry on straight up the hill, exit the village by that road, carry on through lots of bends for about 3mins and then look for a lane/gravel track forking on your left, folllow that keep bearing left and you should get to a car park on your left after about 5mins with a little white shack in it. The crag is in front up a steep short bank. The F5 - ¿A qué se huele? is top class plus load of other great 5´s and 6´s, all very
varied.”

Don’t know if any of that will be any use to you on your next visit but might as well stick it here in case it helps anyone out.  It's not all bouldering though, there are some routes too and apparently a few DWS areas around Cartagena too, although I''ve never found them yet.

Thanks magpie,

I used Murcia climb to find the area, but it only details area 1. The other areas are all from climbing with the locals.

Also have a topo for a larger bouldering area near Crevillent, which look nice. Its a winter only venue, so haven't been yet. Hope to go in February when I am back there, if I can drag myself away from the project at Cabezo!

Sitting in cafe tapping on the imoan, so can't check the web address; but I used to pick up alot of info from the "climb in spain" site. They have an FB page too, where you can exchange info with other users/locals. No idea if there is anything relevant there, but...

Hi,

Yes Murica climb isn't updated to often. I have asked a Spanish friend if he knows of a topo for the area. If I find anything I will let you know.

Cheers

Nice one spinmaster,
Hope something crops up.

Regarding bouldering, can you hire mats out there?

Hi Jordon,

I'm not aware of bouldering mat hire. Its not a major bouldering area, so demand would be limited. I ended up buying two cheap ones from Decathalon and leaving them at my wifes parents. There is a climbing shop in Alicante who sell mats, not sure if they do hire. When are you planning on going there? I am over there from the 17th to the 24th of February, so could always meet up if you want to do some bouldering.

Cheers

Paul

I don't think so either, the guy I was in touch with out there said if I was going out he could find a few by asking friends but I don't think there is enough of a proper scene for anyone to officially rent them or anything.
