Counterfeit Petzl gear
February 13, 2011, 01:11:43 am
Looks like someone in China has decided to counterfeit some Petzl products. Details are on their site. Supposedly the differences are very hard to spot. Testing has shown severe reduction in the load capacity of the fakes!

Doesn't ring true. As you can see from the example given below, the original Petal product has a much lower load capacity than it's newly developed, superior, Chinese, metal brother....

Fairly easy to spot too. One's yellow, t'other ones metal.

I nearly bought a fake pretzel harness the other week. Something about it wasn't quite right though.

Didn't realise Petzl did an alpine bod harness.

Sounds like a half baked idea...

I agree, not worth getting tied in a knot over.

Just make sure you don't buy a Fritzl harness by mistake.

As long as its not in the bargain basement sale you should be ok.

All the Pretzel climbing gear I've ever used has broken with very little impact force or gone soggy in the rain.

Just ensuring the thread stays at the top of the forum for a few days and gets seen.
