Unfortunately I am.
Leslie Nielson has died at 84.

LN: "Nice beaver!"
Priscilla Presley: "Thank-you I stuffed it myself."

I'm absolutely fucking gutted. The guy was a true legend. Probably one of the top silverhaired deadpan canadian actors who ever lived.

From Wikipedia:

Quote
In Airplane! his deadpan delivery contrasted with the continual absurdity surrounding him. In the film when asked, "Surely you can't be serious?", he responds with a curt, "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley." He later reflected in several interviews on the significance of the comedic line: "I thought it was amusing, but it never occurred to me that it was going to become a trademark. It's such a surprise...the thing comes out, people say, 'What did he say?!'". Nielsen also stated that he was "...pleased and honoured that [he] had a chance to deliver that line."

I terms of favourite LN films, Airplane is up there, but I also think Naked Gun 2 1/2 could contend for the top spot. Its one of the few sequels that I think is probably better than the original (A bit like Beverly Hills Cop 2 in that respect).

"He was Caucasian,... with a moustache, .....about 6'3"
"Thats an awfully big moustache".

"You sure know your boxing Frank."
"All I know is never bet on the white guy."

If anyone hasn't got Police Squad on DVD then you're missing out, they were genius, and his delivery overall is even more deadpan.

Agreed. Funnier than any of the films

This is Frank Drebin, Police Squad. Throw down your guns, and come on out with your hands up. Or come on out, then throw down your guns, whichever way you wanna do it. Just remember the two key elements here: one, guns to be thrown down; two, come on out!

What a shame, an utter legend has gone! You don't get comedy like that anymore...

From Twitter:

Leslie Nielson's in a better place. "A better place? What is it?" A construct to help cope with grief, but that's not important right now.

RIP

"We're sorry to bother you at such a time like this, Mrs. Twice. We would have come earlier, but your husband wasn't dead then".

"Now do you think you can beat The Champ?"
"I can take him blindfolded."
"What if he's not blindfolded?"

Tragic loss.

My personal favourite:

"Is this some kind of bust?"
"errr...yes it's very impressive, but that's not why I'm here."

An amusing interview with the man..... http://www.empireonline.com/interviews/interview.asp?IID=1127&WT.dcsvid=SilverpopMailing&WT.mc_id=120310%20newsletter%20(1)

What’s your earliest memory?
Leslie Nielsen: I don’t remember my earliest memory.

He'll be missed.
