Anyone got any knowledge at all on the climbing in Malaysia; i am mainly interested in the stuff near Kuala Lumpur (Batu caves ... maybe there's more?) or near Penang? Any info at all, crags, scene, walls etc etc? Have turfed some stuff up off google, but some first hand info would be much appreciated if there is any! cheers T

Spent a couple of afternoons climbing here http://www.madmonkeyz.my/the-gym
It's fairly easy to get to. Catch the purple E train line to Wangsa Maju. Take the station exit on the left and turn right out of the station. A short walk to a junction turn left and walk up the hill passed a roundabout and shops on boths side of the street. At the T junction turn right and walk over a bridge (I think) and towards a row of shops on the right. The gym is about 3/4 of the way up the row of shops.
Predominantly a bouldering gym with some long circuits too.
The guys there spoke pretty good English and did mention they climbed often at the Batu Caves.

I recall someone saying that Batu was sweaty and shit but perhaps it is better once you get used to it.

Once you forget about how much better everywhere else is then... a bit like bouldering at Stoney in the summer?

I'm out there now! I'd head for Camp 4 in the One Utama shopping complex in Banadr Utama (PJ next to KL). Great indoor wall for bouldering or routes and loads of local info on climbing at Batu caves etc. Also do a search for past threads here quite a bit from a few years ago.
