wild camping peaks???

anyone know of any wild camp locations in peaks??, campsites always full and pretty expensive compared to other areas of UK, seems that all places i find tend to be private land.

Around the main climbing venues its not encouraged. You can bivvy, but tents will usually get moved on. Up on Kinder and Bleaklow its likely different as you can get a bit further off the beaten track.

Have you tried the Eric Byne campsite below Birchens? Being walk-in only it tends to stay quieter.

i will have a look at the campsite, but im assuming walk-in only means no cars, is there parking near by?? I think i would struggle to walk from the midlands with bouldering mat and tent  ???

North Lees below Stanage is pretty cheap and lovely as sites go. But for a wild one its true that Bleaklow and Kinder fit the bill and even there you will be seen by farmers and peak park rangers and sent on your way if you are anything less than descrete. Oh and there is always the 5 star luxury of the Robin hood caves on Stanage.

Yes there is parking a few hundred yards from Eric Byne. Where you hoping to 'wild camp' next to a road? If so I definitely can't think of anywhere in the Peak.

You'll definitely get moved on if you say "peaks" too .

(sorry, someone had to)

Eric Byne always seems underused to me: 100m from Moorside Rocks, 10mins from Birchen or Gradoms, about halk a click from the pub and the carpark.  Even though North Lees is booked up most weekends its often worth looking for late cancellations. There is also a nice campsite near Birchover: http://www.barnfarmcamping.com/ Matlock limestone crags, Cratcliffe, Robin Hood Stride, Rowtor Rocks and Stanton Moor all close by.
