Portland guide
February 17, 2010, 12:03:20 pm

Thinking of heading to Portland for a spot of bouldering while it is still quite fresh.  Was looking at getting the rockfax miniguide to the cuttings but then saw the CC guide to portland - anyone know if there is a substantial amount of bouldering in the book and therfore worth getting?  I already own the rockfax dorset guide

cheers

The new CC guide has literally a couple more problems around the cuttings than the rockfax pdf, all in the lower grades. It also has one or two other areas that look a bit crap and only have problems up to about V4.

If you're climbing up to about V4 then the CC might be worth a look, but if you're after harder stuff than that I'd say go for the pdf and save yourself £15, because the new guide just won't any have more relevant information in. There seems to be quite a good scene down there at the moment so on weekends there should be plenty of people around the cuttings to ask about other areas/problems. Or feel free to email me if you want any more info.
Cheers,
Chris

I bouldered there this New Year using the CC guide, which seems pretty definitive on the bouldering front.  We managed to boulder in t-shirts at New Year so it certainly can be a good bet for when the weather is grim elsewhere.  Though I don't know if the bouldering alone is good enough to be worth a massive drive.

The Cuttings and it's boulderfield is obviously the main area but the CC guide also includes the Neddyfields area which was good as well as some of the beach bouldering on the South of the island which we didnt get a chance to try.
