Careless Torque
February 21, 2010, 07:21:58 pm
hi all.
i was trying to figure the moves on careless torque the other day. but...there is a block down and right or where you initially pull on. do you start by stepping off this block or do you start with feet straight off the ground?
advice please!!
cheers

there's a video of ned doing it on the Wild Country facebook page. You pop to the arete.

What Dave said..

+ I'm a punter and having managed to get the arete in a lanky lunging having a go kind of way, I strongly suspect the bloc being in or out is not the crux of the problem...

good luck~!

Fortunately Ron didn't decide to reduce a classic line to an eliminate, so I will echo that the block is in. However, some people start without it, standing a bit further left and pull on with left hand on arete and right hand on an awful sloper, then hop on and throw left heel around the arete. Probably very difficult to understand this without being shown.

This requires one of two things, Bransby-gritstone-suctionTM or MacHaffie Tenacity! Looks desperate!

I'm pretty sure they still get the starting dish off the block.

Pretty certain they dont. Especially as it would seem silly to then do all the heel clamping shenanigans. I'm sure the whole point of that is because they could'nt reach the dish with feet/foot on the block.

Seen Nige and rocket-powered rob start it that way and neither got the dish from the block. As NCB said, would be silly to do so.

You're right now I think about it. They pull on with that lump below don't they, then go to the dish.

No, Ben can certainly reach the dish off the block, the problem is he can't do the jump to the arete. If you've even some basic jumping skills, you miss out about three powerful moves - hardly 'silly'.
