GCW pointed me towards the Sony tapes (orange packaging) on Amazon.

Yeah, I always get the Sony Premium tapes from Amazon.  You just need to keep your eyes peeled.  Last time I got 20 tapes for FUCK ALL.

Anyone tested the limits of repeat usage? Due to lack of organisational ability, I've recorded over the same one about three times so far, and the quality still seems fine.

increases the number of dropped frames. Haven't tried it with my HV40 but it did happen with my last cam.

I had 3 drop outs, all on re-recorded tapes.  Now I don't ever record on anything except primo virgin tape I've never had any more.
For the cost I don't think it's worth a drop out in the middle of your first 8c.

The only dropouts I've had were on 2 new tapes (Sony premiums) after the camera had run only a dozen or so tapes through it - solved by cleaning the heads, so not a tape issue.

Yeah, last time I got 20 tapes for 12 quid inc P+P.  You just need to look occasionally and you'll get some mad deals.
