sponsored climbing
December 12, 2009, 11:56:05 am
i am trying to do some fundraising and i was wondering if anyone has tryed sponsored climbing before?

did you get good support and enough sponsors?

how much money did you raise and how did you ask for it (per climb per hour etc.)?

basicly i got selected for the world jamboree in sweden in 2011 and i have to raise £1900 and need some good ways to go about getting that kind of money.

any other suggestions or feedback on sponsored climbing is much appreciated.

Tell you what Munkii, why don't you organise a sponsored climb, make it straight forward something like x (sponsors donation) pence per route up to a max of say 15 climbed over maybe 2hrs at a certain minimum grade. Say where and when its going to happen (talk to your local climbing wall about allowing you to do it) and maybe combine it with some charity that the scouts support, dividing the cash between money for your trip and helping those less fortunate than yourself.
If you can get that up and running and post it up here and on UKC I'm sure plenty of UKB'ers (and C'ers) will sponsor you I certainly will. Best of luck.

Well done on getting a jambo place, did one in the 90's and it was an awesome week.

What joe says, especially the combining with a charity bit.

You may wish to avoid being abused in tescos, but we did a bag packing/shopping lugging effort, that went down well with folk and got a few quid together.

Don't know if it's the same set up as mine, but if it is a big lump of your £1900 will be going to towards enabling third world scouty types to attend, which is worth telling people (all the camping gear etc got donated also).

good luck!

thanks for all the feedback guys, i really do appreciate it.

regarding the tesco bag packing that is happening this coming saturday so hoping to get a decent amount from that. i can put up with the abuse, i get enough of that for "spending all my time climbing up walls".

i will look into setting up a paypall account if that is going to make things easier.

as for the charity the idea will have to be used, i just don't feel right asking people for money when it is basicly for personall use, if a percentage was going to charity it would make me feel much better about asking for money from folks.

the third world scouts is a great idea aswell, will have to check with the organisers though as i don't know if it is happening this time round.

thanks for the support, it's the kick i needed to get into gear, now motivation is high and i can get my act together.

any more comments greatly appreciated.

Watch out for Paypal monkii - the fuckers take a cut of what you get paid, and if you recieve over £1700 in the space of 12 months they investigate you for monkey laundering. Sorry, money laundering.
