M$ Word Weirdness
August 04, 2009, 04:01:01 pm
My CV was created using a trial version of MS Word.  It's saved in rich text format.  Can anyone suggest reasons why people are having trouble opening it, and are infact asking me to convert it to word.

Yeah, they're fucking ludites*  :P

Grab a copy of OpenOffice, install on your computer, open your RTF, then click on the "Create PDF" button and save a copy of your CV as a PDF and send that to the ignoramous'

I thank you  8)

*(who most likely don't have the file extension .rtf associated with any program on their computers so they have no idea what application to open the thing with)

Thanks.

I re-sent as a word .doc file.  Which I hope will solve this issue.

I have Open Office, thanks.  Though clearly I don't know how to use it  :-[  I have a sneaky suspicion this is why no cunt wants to give me a job lately.

I'll award myself a headfuck moment

The "Create PDF" is a nice little feature hidden in there on OOffice.  As far as I'm aware there's nothing really analogous in M$-Word.

My wife dazzles her colleagues at work with her technical prowess (which I've forced upon her by making her use Linux as I was sick of fighting with M$ on her laptop, everythings a breeze for her now, she rips CD's and even installs updates of her own volition  :) ).

I'm not sure, but I have a suspicion that the people who work at the recruitment agencies don't even read the CV's.  I think they have software that reads them as I'm always getting asked for mine in .doc format whenever I've sent it as something else.

The jobs that are suggested to me often bear very little relation to the actual CV and are most likely the result of a computer seeing 2 matching acronyms and suggesting certain ones based on something I last did 10 years ago.
