Hey all,

Am thinking about moving to sheffield sometime soon. Does anyone know of any software companies in sheffield which do .Net development that are worth trying for employment? . Also are there any GIS companies in sheffield or near by?

Are you looking for two jobs?  By GIS you mean Geographical Information System?

With regards to software, there are quite a few education/e-learning type setups that may use .net (apols if I'm way off, I'm not that techy when it comes to programming)

Two big uni's worth keeping an eye on for GIS positions, Sheffield Uni are currently looking for a research post with GIS experience.

Capita Symonds will use GIS stuff, they have an office on Devonshire Green, Bigphil works for them and knows the industry pretty well, drop him a PM may be able to point you in the right direction.

A friend of mine who used to live in Sheffield worked as a freelance GIS consultant whilst here, and also whilst living in Manchester.  He always seemed to find work without a problem, although I'm not sure it was always Sheffield/Manchester based but since he worked from home that was never really a problem.
