Gouther Boulders
February 19, 2009, 03:32:48 pm
Anyone (Carlisleslapper?) got any info on this venue.  I'm very keen for a visit, but I note there's bird restrictions due soon (March).

Does it dry quickly?  (How quick?)
Anything else I need to know.

Cheers.

Was last there in October - the v7 prow was dry lower down but damp higher up. four winds wall was slightly damp. this was after a day or 2 of dry weather.

however four winds wall is climable when its drizzling.

hit and miss really i guess, if its all too wet then the vdiff up and above is a lovely solo and not too affected by being wet.

bird ban only affects the peregrine boulder

Cheers Andy.  [Nice one on Fix my Sink, btw]
I guess it's not too much further to Carrock anyway.
What's St Bees like this time of year?  Baltic?
Any chance of Kentmere being dry this weekend?

Not been to Gouther myself but heard good things from Trevor and the lads from Needle Sports. Have you been to St Bees yet? I'd recommend you get yourself there, more to go at and should be in fairly good nick.

Do you think Bees would be OK this weekend?
How tidal is it?
How much of the area is affected by the current bird ban?

No, not made it there yet  :guilty:

It's bone dry in western Cumbria at present mate so should be fine at St Bees. Just check your tide times and you'll be ok. You'll live it!

Cheers Golt.  High tide at 9:58 and 22:22, low water at 16:39.  Just about right.
Have to see about persuading Nik at work.
Are dogs allowed there though?

I'll give you a weather update tomorrow matey. You should be fine with a dog, you have to walk through farm land to get there so as long as you keep it on a lead you'll be ok. I would join you but I'm off to Ireland for my brothers 30th on Saturday. Hope you enjoy though.

Had a trundle up to Gouther yesterday.  Unforunately the forecast proved false and I was dealt intermittent drizzle.
J Mascis is a superb line, didn't really try it though.  Certainly worth taking a couple of pads.

Spent the day greasing off stuff and trashing my skin.  Keen for a rematch in better weather.

Would be keen to check that place out with you G. Is it the same venue that scary looking traverse Carlisle slapper is at? I may be up camping in s lakes from Fri till Sun so would be up for a Saturday hit if you could hook me up with a ride  ;)

Boo to false forecasts. Gouther would be better when the Lakes is beset by westerlies I think.

There's a couple of ace trad slabs at the crag, One Step Beyond is one of the coolest crag routes in the Lakes.

P.S. That's the same music as the start of Winter Sessions.

Carlisle Slappers traverses the whole length of the lip above Trev's Traverse.  I may be allowed out on Saturday, have to negotiate with the Boss.  Where are you camping?

Not seen it.

Look like I couldn't get Friday off work so it'll likely be day hits to random places now. Somewhere on lime both days of course  ;D
