Steep arete near pebble mill?
March 21, 2009, 03:49:46 pm
Help please! What is this steep arete at Burbage near Pebble Mill? It's not in the guide and I don't have the BMC book to check that.

It looks great! We thought it climbed face on from a sit, spanning across both aretes of the steep side of the block, then topping out leftwards? Sorry for A the crap image, and B being a div.

Info and advice very gratefully received.

Cheers

Ian

I cleaned this up a couple of weeks back. Nige bagged it first. Like you say, the way we did it was from sitting hugging up the two aretes then topping out leftwards. Essentially it's a sit start to a prob called Broddle's Baby listed in the BMC guide at V6 (to me Broddle's Baby seemed more like V4 once cleaned). I thought it was pretty good and I thought hard 7a+, with a great move left on a nice sloper. You'll have to wait for Nige to show up for a name and official grade. Andy B did it with a RH topout which is perhaps easier but with a worse landing.

Thanks Jon, I'm not being stupid then if it's so new! I guessed 7B from looking at it before pulling on. We'll get back to it.

I can now confirm that said problem goes by the name of Trapped in Crow's Craws.

Just to check, you do mean "craws", as in the place they hold the food till it is later regurgitated for their young? I didn't know birds had more than one. Maybe you mean "crows' craws" rather than "crow's craws." Or "crow's craw". Or maybe you mean claws, or maybe you mean caws...

It may refer to being chopped into several bits which all stick in the craws of crows.

Oh wait, but then it'd be crows'   :wall:

Of course you are correct sir, it should be Trapped in Crows' Craws, Trapped in Crow's Craws obviously being a totally different problem over at Burbage East.
