Knobheads

Wasn't sure where to post this, hopefully this is the right topic area. Anyway.... was up at Thorn Crag on Wednesday and on our way up to the main crag going past the Crag boulders we noticed that some C**T has been shooting what appears to be an air rifle at the Burnt Heather boulder and has left tons of chips where they have hit the rock. This is pretty shit as, as well as looking fairly ugly, the rock underneath might be damaged. As I know little about the protectional surface layer of grit etc...and how much damage it can take before starting to more rapidly degrade etc. I thought I'd let people on here know so that when they're next at the crag they can check it out and see what they think.

I was also at the crag on Monday and would have walked past the boulder, but did not notice the damage (whether it was there and I did not see  it or the damage had not yet occurred, I do not know). But it seems that this may have happened on Tuesday. So I was also wondering whether anyone was around that day and saw anything?

Isn't it a working grouse moor? Could it be a single shotgun blast rather than lots of air rifle pellets?

Yeh, guess thats a more logical explanation. There is also a number of chips in the area...looking like a target- a spray (?) of pellets from a shotgun perhaps. Anyway, I know nothing about guns.
