Last minute change of plans due to crap west coast weather forecast, and heading to Northumberland. Midges out in England generally yet?
-
I got bitten a couple of times at Warton the day before yesterday, and again last night up the Pass. Not clouds of evil blood sucking bastards like you get up north, but a few around. Seems like only a few weeks since the hills were plastered in snow, and suddenly it's roasting hot!
-
if you go somewhere out of the wind, then chances are there'll be midges. not sure is the county in general is as bad as the peak for midges, but they've been out for months in the peak if you go to the wrong crag.

Don't think the county is as bad for midges as the peak in general, and I must have been lucky (or not climbing enough) as I haven't felt any midges in the peak yet this year.

They mustn't like the look of your blotchy leg. They were biting us at the tor last night
-
A few the other day at Caley and the cliff.
-
Mid afternoon swarms in Sefton Park cut short our techno festival for two. Very strange.
-
And at Helsby last night - which is pretty much unheard of.
-
Ended up at Bowden, where it was roasting. Not a beastie in sight. Yesterday weather was a bit pish and I was hungover, so stopped at Hawkcraig.
Cheers people.

In harrogate for a wedding on Friday, then Leeds for weekend. Given showery forecast, is Caley likely to be midge hell? Should I head straight to the 'cliff? Not climbed at Caley for years.
-
check out the wind direction and strength, thats the key factor.
-
Cheers. I know this, but am out touch with calibrating for local factors.
