Title: Duffy? Am I getting old?
Post by: i.munro on March 17, 2008, 07:58:02 pm
I can't stop listening to this but it seems to be selling bucketloads. Last time I liked something this popular was ABBA in the 70's. I'm worried I may be losing it.

Any thoughts?

Not really listened to it - don't really like the single that much - is the album good?

I think if the single doesn't appeal then you can safely avoid the album.

I feel sorry for her. With so much hype so fast she'll be in rehab next week. She seems to have a genuinely good voice but its not to my taste.

Seen her on the telly a few times, and she working the 60s look with big eyes and big sweaters and bardot pout...album's half decent....has a certain Sandy Shaw ingenue quality, which works if you like that kinda thing....

Isn't she  (duffy not ss) from somewhere near Llanberis?

On the 60s thing, what ever happened to that well-known god of hellfire, Arthur Brown? Surely a legend!

Arthur Brown is still live and kicking and STILL setting fire to his head .... Caught his show at the end of last year ..... Very impressive .....

Close.  Raised in Nefyn on the Lleyn.  Or so Google tells me anyway.

Part of the time. I think she lived with her mum most of the time somewhere in S wales.

Duffy = Winehouse substitute and they both sound like Shirley Bassey to me

Not sure. Do you live in a cave on the Ormes & never speak to anyone?
If the answer is no then I think it does.

No I don't, but my Grandma lives five minutes walk from the cave and I have a generally quiet disposition.

Thanks, I remember listening to my dad's Arthur Brown album donkeys ago and thinking it was pretty bonkers, but in a very cool way....nice to know you're never to old to set your head alight either! heard he'd joined a church and works a preacher these days, so guess this is the appropriate smiley :devangel:

Just been listening to the duffy album, very moreish...'fraid shirley bassey is before my time

I've been listening to her album this week on hols and whilst it's a bit middle of the road in places there's a few good ones. Warwick Avenue is the standout for me... She's got a great voice that would be best served on something a bit more adventurous.

While I would disagree about the standout track that just about matches my opinion.
Now I just need to know that you're young & assymetric of hair & I shall feel reassured.

After my drunken rants on previous 'music' threads I can only comment that she looks fine by me. :great:
