Yeah, someone had to start the topic. 10 things to do in 2008. This time next year we can all laugh at only managing 1. I'm aiming low
1. Buckstone Dyno- never got around to trying it
2. Mothership Reconnection (Thorn)- looked once in adverse conditions
3. Picnic Sarcastic +/- SDS- Got close on a brief session years ago
4. West Side Story
5. Jerry's Arete (Bridestones)
6. Sloping Beauty (Earl)
7. Dezertion Eliminate (Brownstones)- Stupid but it's beaten me so far
8. Shallow Grave (Trowbarrow)- Another one I should have done already
9. Clash of the Titans (St Bees)- Another venue I've never been to, sorry
10. Big Marine (Craig Y Longridge- Psyched to get back there
I'd also like to do something in Wales, I've never really bouldered there. Generally I'd like to get out more than I did in '07.

10 things to do in 2008.
1. Stay injury free for a change
2. Having come to the conclusion that I'll never be that technical train to get very strong indeed
3. Do a handful of respectable problems (low sevens) in Font Easter half term
4. Do a handful of respectable problems (low sevens) in North Wales over Easter
5. Get my bug bears in the boulderfield wrapped up before access becomes an issue i.e. after a buggy is added to the bouldering gear list (see 10) - namely Acid House, Lightning Strike and Liquid Sunshine
6. get back on a rope in Portland - finish tipping the scales and complete do the top halves of Deadlosski must die and Subyouth for starters
7. Up my limestone grade to V8 with Lats, bolts and babes and Stomping with Bez (new cuttings)
8. Get back on the grit next winter and visit the buggy accessible places I've been saving/staying away from recently (see 10) inc the Eagle stone, Burbage South and Curbar - any other suggestions??
9. Not get too cynical about work
10. Become a Dad
-
Try The Shocker (in Beddgellert), shortstuff
That looks good (has this settled somewhere between 7a+ and 7b+? I've ordered the guide, it hasn't arrived yet :) ), as does the thing to the right (the problem, not the weirdo):

Underhand and either of the two Virgin face probs at Almscliff
Ring Piece and First Arete at Ilkley
DIA, Handy Andy's, Sloping Beauty, and The Flakes at Earl
Ben's Groove at Caley
- get back into visiting the Lakes, especially for the Bowderstone where pretty much anything harder than Picnic Sarcacstic awaits
- give sport climbing a proper go i.e. red point a project (though I'll need to find a climbing partner for this)
- climb abroad, preferably somewhere I haven't been before even if it's just Euro sport
mind you all of this requires getting stronger, unfortunately the recent trend has been for the reverse so I'd probably be content to just get back to my previous level of punterdom.
-
Now I've got some time off in (hopefully) good conditions, my list is:
Fill some of the gaps in my trad grit CV - Both Unconquerables, Chequers Buttress, Flying Buttress Direct, Long John's Slab...the list goes on

Wahay, congratulations! Sounds like you got yourself a convoy! I remember having a 10-year-old's crush on Ali McGraw when I saw this.
Thanks Mark :)
It's a tough test - way harder than the car test, and harder than the C (class 2) test just because of the sheer size of the trailer and the reversing.

Little sis served in Kosovo as an articulated fuel tanker (petrol) driveress w/Logistics. An enormous bomb on wheels.
Story goes she lost the back-end in a ditch and had to shove the truck in too to avoid rolling it and drove up the other bank. She took it into the field on the other side - avoiding bizarre cairns as she went (wondering what they were but grateful the rig was upright). She exited the cairned field to be met by a flabbergasted Challenger commander who has seen the episode and said she just made him lose fifty quid. She asked why? You've just driven through a partially cleared minefield, was the reply. They'd taken bets to see if she'd be toast.
She also crashed her landy into an ambulance in the Falklands - and emerged unscathed; both vehicles write-offs. She's blind as a bat. Like me.
-
I wouldn't want to drive a fuel tanker any where near a war zone - respect to her!
-
Cracking left hook . . .

5 - Drink less and eat healthier - Done well on this one having cut down on the booze massively
6 - Get lots of sleep - Less travel at work and going to bed earlier really helps
7 - Acquire less stuff - Aside from the hardtail and the new puppy I can't think of anything I've acquired this yearand I got rid of loads of crap in the Spring
Going pretty well overall....
-
1. Climb remaining E2-4 routes in Lleyn section of North Wales Rock before spring.
no - ran out of time/weather/opportunity
2. Climb abroad on either Scandinavian granite or German/Czech sandstone.
no - still got time yet
3. Go on whatever bouldering / sport trips abroad are available.
a bit - font x 2, costa blanca weekend - but stopped due to injury
4. Hang out with my mates more and do more climbing with them.
no - injured, mates mostly climb local / sport / bouldering, can't do that
5. Climb a few remaining inspirations at Nesscliffe, Baggy, a few esoteric odds and sods, and on grit.
no - injury etc etc
Errr umm. That's it?
Have decided to remix an alternative / additional top 10 from most inspiring goals other people have mentioned:
1. be absolutely flamboyant
kinda - putting more effort into beanie style and t-shirt colours, and got some good tunes busting out of the ride
2. remain SYKED
kinda - but has to be put on hold due to injury
3. get AWESOME
no - injured
1. 4. stop fucking about.
no
5. work harder at everything
no
6) Learn Spanish
have increased vocab from about 5 words to about 10 and sometimes not afraid to use them
7 - Acquire less stuff.
ummm yeah, with the exception of dnb cds
7. 8. hope to fuck I enjoy my climbing as much as I am at the moment for ever
yes, when it actually happens, love it as much as ever
9 Have a considerably more productive year for trad and boudlering in Scotland
yes yes fucking yes, two full weeks in May
10. (from another thread) Go to the next Detatched Fiend .
no - too lazy for clubbing
:-\
Hope that's adequately informative
-
2 - Be fit and strong enough to really make the most of the Banyaks boat trip in May - Ticked... felt great and surfed every day
Be nice to see some pics? From that? At some point? This year? Maybe?
-
2) Buy another house - Working on it
3) Get a job again in the summer after 2 years off - working on it
Give us some tips on how to ACHIEVE Adam, I've clearly missed a trick here.
It was all down to circumstances, no luck or special skills involved....
-
Be nice to see some pics? From that? At some point? This year? Maybe?
 You're not the only one. I ended up with 3,500 pics on my laptop that I'm the process of sorting, editing and building a slideshow to put up online. I'm nearly there but it might be a week or so yet.....
-
So much to do, too little time.
You still working then?
No, 4 more weeks of freedom. However, the kids haven't been well recently and the wife is back at work so it's going to limit free days. Plus the weather has been duff for a week or 2.
Is there ever time to do all the climbing you want to?
-
my list will probably be the most boring. anyway...
1 climb more WOW NOT EVEN CLOSE

6 his hair gel just provides too strong a hold
7 very close overlapping halves should have done it a couple of weeks ago but i'm shit so.....

10 achieved this mainly through the magic of facebook
-
1 - Conehead
2 - Overnite
3 - Grooved Arete
4 -A 7B+
5 - see point 1
6 - see point 2
7 - see point 3
8 - well you get the picture
Got to say that I achieved a whopping 0/all :(
Newtarget is just to get back climbing at some point in the future.
-
Still time left in 2008 Andy. I hope you get back into things soon.
-
Newtarget is just to get back climbing at some point in the future.
Get to it Andy, you are missed from the Merseyside massive. If we get a new board venue sorted will you join us?
-
No particular order of importance, but the causal relationships between these items will probably dictate the chronological order in which they are achieved - could be an all or nothing year.
- sort out gout/arthritis/extreme-toe-pain vs decent climbing footwear problem
tick
- loose at least a stone in weight (13st 8lb ish now)
14st 3lb : arse
- boulder harder than 7b+ for the first time
2nd 7b+ in Font
urrrm
nearly
lightyears away
- do some front lever pull ups
almost - sloppy form
- start training for planche press ups (will take longer than a year to get there)

tick
- sustain very happy relationship
YES, YES, FUCKING YES !
-
I could have sworn I posted some aims in this thread way back. Oh well, maybe that suggests something about my aimless lifestyle...
Anyway, I kind of aimed to:
1) Finish of the text I promised for the Cheshire guide
2) Run a sub 1:20 half marathon
3) Finally manage to climb at St Bees
4) Climb a proper 7c in Font
5) Onsight Black Magic
6) Paint the bathroom
7) Go back to Magic
I have so far...
1) Ticked it.
2) Not entered one this year (blaming Dolph for having his stag do when my local half was on).
3) Spent a wonderful couple of days at St Bees and did everything. Well not quite but did most that I wanted to do.
4) Managed a 7b+/7c. So no.
5) Waiting for conditions.
6) Girlfriend painted the bathroom whilst I went to the Orme. Get in.
7) I leave on the 3rd August for nearly a month in Switzerland.

They sound more like chores than aims! Get some real aims monster. We're dealing with numbers and innane feats here - the spice of life.
-
1. Climb some nice grit routes (if my trad rack is still serviceable)
Nope. It's all locked away somewhere.
2. Go bouldering with Houdini
Nope.
3. Go to Font at least a couple of times
Ha ha. Nope.
4. Climb some sunny sport routes in the autumn
Not there yet, but probably nope.
5. Ride impulsively-bought freeride bike some more
It's also in storage.
6. Go swimming in impulsively-bought triathlon wetsuit some more
Nope. The wetsuit case is now home to a plethora of Indian cigarettes.
7. Buy house
Are you joking?
8. Build training facility (subject to 7)
Fuck off.
9. Buy boat (subject to 7)
Ditto
However...
Finish novel.
Tick...
-

3) climb another boulder problem this year
4) have a wash
5) polish the Tor
6) errrr, CRUSH!
-
I'd like to see you trying to string ten pounds out over a month! It can be done but yesterday was a low point when Donnelly had to buy us a bag of Netto goods to keep existing. Hard times.
-
Blah blah blah...
I don't see "Buy big fuck off LPG fuelled V8 monster truck - TICK!" on that list.
-
It should be on everyones list
-
my aims are:
1: remain psyched and train even tho its the last year of uni
2: timmy tip toes 7b - shaftoe.

picture? I tried to buy an LPG fuelled V8 American camper thing but no one would insure it, well someone would but they said "we haven't got that on our list but we can insure it as....A MUSTANG! and issue you with a cover notice accepting this"...Crazy cats.
-
Here's a sneaky pic of Lager's new Monster Truck, with added BLING
(http://www.up.ac.za/organizations/movup/images/minefun/indian_haul_truck.jpg)
-
I forgot to add another tick. For the last five years or so I've wanted to cover up the tatty tatts on the right arm with a high quality traditional Irezumi half sleeve and chest/shoulder piece but never found a suitable artist in a suitable location. A few weeks back I finally got started...
Here's the start of the inside koi.
It's an interesting process so to add to the vanity I've been adding to the blog.

10 things to do in 2008.
1. Stay injury free for a change
touch wood....
2. Having come to the conclusion that I'll never be that technical train to get very strong indeed
getting there
3. Do a handful of respectable problems (low sevens) in Font Easter half term
four 7a's and a 7a+ in not great conditions... plus got my arse kicked on a slack line by Jo Montchausse....
4. Do a handful of respectable problems (low sevens) in North Wales over Easter
3 7a's and 2 7a+'s in two sessions whilst ducking the snow and sleet....
5. Get my bug bears in the boulderfield wrapped up before access becomes an issue i.e. after a buggy is added to the bouldering gear list (see 10) - namely Acid House, Lightning Strike and Liquid Sunshine
haven't been psyched so go beating my way through the brambles...
6. get back on a rope in Portland - finish tipping the scales and complete do the top halves of Deadlosski must die and Subyouth for starters
tipping - tick, Deadlosski - tick, plus others inc Rubicon up peak ways
7. Up my limestone grade to V8 with Lats, bolts and babes and Stomping with Bez (new cuttings)
Stompin' - tick, lats... never gonna happen, not a slab climber...
8. Get back on the grit next winter and visit the buggy accessible places I've been saving/staying away from recently (see 10) inc the Eagle stone, Burbage South and Curbar - any other suggestions??
did Gorilla warfare and early doors in one evening session but otherwise not gonna get round to these particular areas this year but maybe in '09 - see 10
9. Not get too cynical about work
had my moments but overall not bad....
10. Become a Dad
Not gonna happen this year, unless it's early - 3 month scan was done on Thursday and everything looks good - due date 15th Jan - life will change ;D
-
1. Have month or two on the lime to gain uber finger strength and accurate footwork.
2. Keep up the weights routine.
3. Do Fecking 'Bizarre' (Churnet) before it crumbles away forever!
4. Improve weekend Hangover/Sober climbing ratio from 80/20 to at least 50/50
5. Improve topping out technique and remember to hold it together thus avoiding 'dying seal'
-
1. walk
tick
2. get a training post
tick
3. some more 8 action at the cove
not even been
4. get to font
tick
5. some more shiz at rubbercon

7. brad pit

8. lager/dave's crack/groove buttpipe

all this kind of depends on 1. except number 9!
-

2.5... on right, 2 on left. currently injured finger so right will be the target.

Now I've got some time off in (hopefully) good conditions, my list is:
Fill some of the gaps in my trad grit CV - Both Unconquerables, Chequers Buttress, Flying Buttress Direct, Long John's Slab...the list goes on
Travel a bit this winter and get 7a sport done somewhere
A 7a in Font
Start doing, and continue to do cardio stuff so I actually get a bit fitter
Get a job in about April...though it'll pain me to do so
First one - getting there, have done a few of the classic HVSs, a few random E1, a couple of E2s and onsighted Telli the other week
Second one - did the travelling thing but not the 7a sport thing
Third one - finally did one after a few years of trying, Gravitron
Fourth one - back playing squash and going the gym so that's helping
Fifth one -sadly, done that as well, thus knackering up carrying on doing all the above for the forseeable future...though we see.
As we're halfway, I'm adding the following:
Cut down on eating so much crap at work
Actually get some core strength
60+ three dart average
-

Aren't 1 and 3 conflicting aims?

Pay that NI bill I swept under the carpet couple of years back . . .

Turns out it's "only" V6 but is mint. Lagers is going to sort the daft skirting out.

Why? Lick of black paint, a nice tail fender and a red-stripe down the side and away you go, Faceman. I reckon Lagers' would look good with a Mohican too

This idea has already been discussed. ;)

sort out gout/arthritis/extreme-toe-pain vs decent climbing footwear problem
Totally avoided the issue by not going climbing
loose at least a stone in weight (13st 8lb ish now)[/
Now 14st 8lb. Arse.
boulder harder than 7b+ for the first time
Unlikely to happen
stay motivated
Motivation disappeared for the summer - now back
keep up deadhang regime
As above.
regain six-pack abs
No chance.
do some front lever pull ups
Came close - might happen.
start training for planche press ups
Managed first tucked planche pressup. SYKED
have a second year free of significant finger injuries
Yes, yes, fucking YES. So far...
sustain very happy relationship
Not only has she agreed to marry me, I am going to be a dad again :dance1:  :bounce: ;D

If I write down my aims will it make more likely to do them? :-\
Currently, I am aiming to be less weak and fat unfit by Christmas. That's a bit general isn't it. I need to give it more thought or hire an angry man to shout at me and make me do things.
I have one clear aim for 2009 though: Touch Chris Sharma on his actual real life body, ideally that will look a bit like this ---> :kiss2:
Congrats Lagers, mainly for the last one ;D

This really is easy to do. Just find out where he's going to be bouldering, then happen to be there when he arrives to try the same thing. When he has a go make sure you are underneath him, arms aloft, and then touch him as he falls off (which he does occasionally). It wasn't so difficult from what I remember... ;) Good luck!

Cheers Mag. The last one is the most important.

Have you really touched him? :o
-
Cheers Mag. The last one is the most important.
I should say!
Especially as the rest are mainly variations on "I've been lazy and got fat(ter)". ;)

I have been very content and as a result have got fatter.

I'm sort of envious as if I got fatter I could never be content. :-\

By increasing his contents he's got fatter.

Fuck, that time of year for tallying already.
1 Not get injured
Minor back hassles - but a general tick
2 Make better use of flexitime to surf and use wall at lunchtime
Yes on flexitime, although it's been a poor summer for waves, although getting a longboard has made it a lot more fun
3 Following good use of surfing flexitime, improve enough to do Scottish NW Coast and Hebrides justice
HA HA
4 Following that, get some good surfing done in Oz in Autumn
HA HA HA
5 Get some winter routes and ski touring done
Double no of winter routes from previous years to 2. got some great ski tours in
6 Make an effort to get down to gritstone more often
HA HA HA HA - Once. Some good Northumberland trips though.
7 get to Font
Great week at maisonbleau (with average weather), ending in a similar result to lager's marriage bit!
8 Have a good snowboarding trip to somewhere with decent powder
Tick
9 Have a considerably more productive year for trad and boudlering in Scotland
Tick - great spring, average summer
10 Get more mountain biking done at 7 Stanes etc (might even upgrade bike)
Upgraded bike, but not done much at 7 Stanes. Good local stuff though.
-
1) Sell house
Have you seen the housing market lately? No neither have I...
2) Buy a new house
Due to failure at step 1 step 2 is not gonna happen...
3) Retire
Or alternatively work more and more and more and more aaarrrggghhhhhhhhh.....
4) Get a full nights sleep
Iced like an expensive wedding cake, oh yeah.
5) Go climbing more than this year
YYFY, dunno how but that aim is ticked.
Also got the wife to concede that:
1) moving to Font was in principle possible
2) spending several months tootling round Europe in a couple of years is a great idea
Given that aims 1)-3) are no-hopers I'm going to optimistically replace them with:
1) Jess's Roof
2) Iron Man
3) Something classic old-school in the Peak, maybe Jerrys Traverse at the Plantation?
-
ending in a similar result to lager's marriage bit!
:shag: ?

Either or, congrats

maybe the "aims for 2009" thread should be realeased soon?

we got engaged
Hurray! Congratulations
-
maybe the "aims for 2009" thread should be realeased soon?
I will "release" it on 01/01/2009, one year after this was released. I can't put it out any sooner because I'm unsure how many '08 aims will be on the '09 list.
Or maybe we should get another 10 for '09 and add the '08 ones on- it'll be impossible to acheive
-
we got engaged
Hurray! Congratulations
Cheers. I blame the romance of Paris in the Springtime.

After a while pissing about with duff sequences (which everyone else seems to use fine), I suddenly got a sequence that worked for me and Mothership Reconnection was in the bag. 3 out of 10 with 6 weeks to go.

3) Something classic old-school in the Peak, maybe Jerrys Traverse at the Plantation?
4) Get a full nights sleep
5) Go climbing more than this year
Final analysis time on the last day of the year.
I have managed to realise success in items 2), 4) and 5)
Items 1) and 3) have rolled over into next years ticklist.
Overall I very pleased with how things have panned out, something to build on for next year.
Anybody else care/dare to admit how their year has gone?
-
1 climb more
2 manage to spend more time each visit to foreign destinations ----->
------> 3 climb something hard (again) abroad
4 get a few projects down

5 lately yes, just in time!!!
6 not even close even if i managed to embarass myself sometimes

Deadlosski tick, subyouth in 2009
7. Up my limestone grade to V8 with Lats, bolts and babes and Stomping with Bez (new cuttings)
stompin' tick ;D

erm, not too bad.. ::)
10. Become a Dad
Dr Junior is due on the 15th
-
10 (almost done) i got back, i went to parisella's cave with 3 hours of sleep and got crushed by rock atrocity
oh well...
I'm surprised you managed to get on the train after that most epic of journeys, let alone do the problem in two halves. Have faith bestia!!!
Big G Start
Finish fucking Rock Attrocity
The Sting
Bus Stop
South West Overhang sitter (hmm..)
The Malteser
Close a CoC 1.5/2 (2 if I'm lucky punk), get back into running good style, etc etc.
Hmmm. Few done! I abandoned ship on The Sting when I realised that it's gash and painful for me beyond words! This was substituted with Under the Bridge (which got done). Rock Attrocity left me fondling the slot many a time but then partied too much to retain P.E. This did however, keep my weight low and my sex drive high from all the dancing.
Captains of Crush 1.5 was closed once on two separate occasions after some prolonged sessions.
Managed one session on Big G in way too hot conditions so keen to revisit. Much more focused this year having tried some new things.
In summary, a) I need to spend less time on the board getting erect about silly little things and fondle some rock.
b) continue integrating miscellaneous hardware and software in the studio
c)make sure I hold it together enough tonight to talk to a certain girl.
Good luck in your aspirations for '09 holmes!!
-
1. break 1:40 for the half marathon
2. manage to combine training for the above with improving my climbing

10. Trois hommes et un coup fin, if I can get enough pads together.
1. 1:30:49, get in.
2. No, but not lost too much ground.
3-5 Nope
6. Of course
7-10 Nope - didn't get on BB, hotline was wet, gnossienne was hard, trois homme et un coup fin was scary :boohoo:
Think I should avoid specific climbing aims in future...
-
Move pile of left over sand from flat into Broadfield in surreptitious ' great escape' manner , tick .......
In between his sediment shifting visits to the pub, Grumpy managed to whore his way into the 6a club :beer2:
-
Brad pit - tick
The terrace - tick
F8a(+?) -tickety tick tick for both
F7c onsight or flash - tick, unexpectedly went one better and onsighted and flashed 7c+ too
Lots of quality euro lime sport in general and go DWSing somewhere good with warm water again. - plenty of euro lime, but no DWS, even above cold grey water.. must correct this next summer.
Headpoint:
EOTA
Simba's - not done either, but not been very psyched for grit routes.
Onsight/flash:
Ghost train
Hunter Killer, orange robe burning, caveman, coronary country, LOTF, king wad, painted rumour, jasmin, something more on gogarth mainn cliff, loads more classic E5s
If I get to Ireland: above and beyond, primal scream, hell's kitchen arete, lots at the burren
-did lord, above and beyond, a reasonable amount at the burren and a decent bunch of e5s from the above list. No trips to pembroke which definitely needs correcting this year! I blame to weather for those not done, though lack of balls mught have something to do with it too
-
1 - Not get permanently exhausted through working too hard - Tick... Started a new job in October
2 - Be fit and strong enough to really make the most of the Banyaks boat trip in May - Ticked... felt great and surfed every day
3 - Finally climb a Font 7b problem (I've made it to 7a+ each year) - Nope... done a couple of 7a+s
4 - Do lots of routes in the Summer - particularly away from the Peak - Managed a couple of Wales trips but that was it .
5 - Drink less and eat healthier - Done well on this one having cut down on the booze massively
6 - Get lots of sleep - Less travel at work and going to bed earlier really helps
7 - Acquire less stuff - Tick. Got rid of loads of clutter too
-
Aims:
- deal with a few of my Yorks grit projects, any of the following will do:
Underhand and either of the two Virgin face probs at Almscliff
Ring Piece and First Arete at Ilkley
DIA, Handy Andy's, Sloping Beauty, and The Flakes at Earl
Ben's Groove at Caley
Partial success: I managed the easier of the Virgin problems and DIA and later linked sit-starts into both. Underhand remains a bete noir and will be rolled-over (one year's work = one move further along!). I reckon Ring Piece and Sloping Beauty will go soonish. Ben's Groove still terrifies me....
- get back into visiting the Lakes, especially for the Bowderstone where pretty much anything harder than Picnic Sarcacstic awaits
Managed one trip: did Lateral Gruntings and Statstick at the 'Stone (also falling repeatedly at the last move of the Picnic sitter) and Shallow Grave at Trowbarrow.
- give sport climbing a proper go i.e. red point a project (though I'll need to find a climbing partner for this)
Sort of: I had a few good days on UK limestone. Looked at charitably, my third try of Last Dog at Gordale and second go at Clarion Call almost count as sucessful RP campaigns! Also had a lot of goes at Witches Brew at Kilnsey but was ultimately unsuccessful (falling at the last juggy move on one occassion). Definitely a type of climbing I want to get into more (although I'd have to get off my arse and find some partners).
- climb abroad, preferably somewhere I haven't been before even if it's just Euro sport
Success, although a trip to Mallorca was the minimum.
mind you all of this requires getting stronger, unfortunately the recent trend has been for the reverse so I'd probably be content to just get back to my previous level of punterdom.
The juries out.... I suspect I'm stronger but I'm definitely heavier - I can climb pretty much as well as I ever could, but have to do it quicker!
-
1) Eat more healthy.
2) Buy another house.
3) Get a job again in the summer after 2 years off.
4) Move from PC to Mac (Maybe)
5) Get a better DSLR and get a bit better with my photography.
6) Learn Spanish
Didn't accomplish 2 or 6. All others. Ticked!

Move pile of left over sand from flat into Broadfield in surreptitious ' great escape' manner , tick .......
In between his sediment shifting visits to the pub, Grumpy managed to whore his way into the 6a club :beer2:
Indeed I did , a mere bagatelle to 99.99% of people on here , but to a fat 46 year old with carpel tunnels in both wrists that's sometimes so bad I can't feel the holds , it was extremely satisfying .....
-
1. Climb some nice grit routes (if my trad rack is still serviceable)
Trad rack in storage, along with my talent.
2. Go bouldering with Houdini
Hou?
3. Go to Font at least a couple of times
Yeah right.
4. Climb some sunny sport routes in the autumn
Nope, but I did have a dream about climbing some sunny sports routes. Then it turned into the usual snake pit / unable to run nightmare.
5. Ride impulsively-bought freeride bike some more
Was in storage too till about 3 months ago, and I could buy the same thing for £900 on ebay, so a massive waste of cash that I could've wasted on drugs and sex toys.
6. Go swimming in impulsively-bought triathlon wetsuit some more
Triathlon wetsuit case was for most of the year home to the huge quantity of cheap cigarettes that I brought back from India at Easter. I think there's an irony hidden in there too...
7. Buy house
Luckily I wasn't that stupid.
8. Build training facility (subject to 7)
The only training facility a man needs consists of a pint glass, a large tumbler and a well-lubricated rolling pin.
9. Buy boat (subject to 7)
Carried forward
-
1. Climb remaining E2-4 routes in Lleyn section of North Wales Rock before spring. - no, ran out of time.
2. Climb abroad on either Scandinavian granite or German/Czech sandstone. - no, too injured.
3. Go on whatever bouldering / sport trips abroad are available. - no, too injured.
4. Hang out with my mates more and do more climbing with them. - no, too injured.
5. Climb a few remaining inspirations at Nesscliffe, Baggy, a few esoteric odds and sods, and on grit. - no, just didn't happen.
0/5
And...
Have decided to remix an alternative / additional top 10 from most inspiring goals other people have mentioned:
1. be absolutely flamboyant
- no, not much to be flamboyant about.
2. remain SYKED
- no, too injured & fragile.
3. get AWESOME
- no, see above.
1. 4. stop fucking about.
- no.
5. work harder at everything
- no.
6) Learn Spanish
- no.
7 - Acquire less stuff.
- no, didn't get round to getting rid of stuff.
7. 8. hope to fuck I enjoy my climbing as much as I am at the moment for ever
- in between, too injured but enjoyed some stuff, the spirit is still there.
9 Have a considerably more productive year for trad and boudlering in Scotland
- YES, two great trips up there, the highlight of the year.
10. (from another thread) Go to the next Detatched Fiend .
- no BUT did go to see Surgeon which was cool.
I'd say that averages out at 1 and two halves out of 10, a grand total of:
2/15
Hmmm...
That's not nearly the pass mark is it??
Oh dear.
-
1. Get stronger fitter discover technique and try and be more static.
2. Get a van.
3. Climb loads all over the country (bouldering and trad).
4. Go to Font.
5. Go climbing with mates more.
6. Gorilla\Extended Warfare.
7. Get back onto grit trad at a grade above VS and stop being scared witless about it all (just scared will do).
8. Avalanche Wall (Curbar) without falling off or slumping onto gear.
9. Climb on Slate.
10. Climb abroad somewhere other than Font.
1. Might have discovered technique but it could equally have been a rare on day for me - certainly not stronger, fitter or more static.
2. Cash in bank - just a matter of spending it now.
3. Tick - trad only really but still managed Cornwall, Wales and Lakes which I was well pleased about.
4. Fail
5. Think I managed this one
6. Played on this a bit but nothing worth noting in all honesty
7. Fail
8. Fail
9. One day on slate - need to do more next year to see if I was having an off day or whether it's all a bit overrated
10. Ireland, Kalymnos and Sardinia
