Broke a bone in my wrist (Triquetral/um) alongside a resulting bad sprain -just got the cast off and have reasonable mobility, but still a good deal of pain with some movements. I realise that rehab will take time, but what have other people's experiences been with returning to climbing after this kind of injury? Realistically, how long will it be?
-
I broke bottom of the thumb side bone off in the standard snowboarding crash type way. Climbed with wrist support on for a laugh but three weeks later was on gogarth - my advice - bin bouldering and go routinng. leading up to vs shouldnt be a problem and i was seconding at e3. Nowt steep mind.
-
Sorry to hear that Andy.
How long were you in cast? If you've had 4 weeks or so you should be able to function as pain allows. You will be sore and that may last a while. Get going as you can tolerate. Gentle climbing should be OK but be sensible. A lot of pain is your body telling you somthing.
All the best, hope it gets better soon.
PS Did you get the PM?

You aren't so lucky with your hand(job) injuries clm.

I broke the same bone (I think) as clm playing tennis in the rain. Sorry to say it ached like buggery (or so I've been told) for 18 months. Was able to do stuff straight away but just didn't push too hard. Like GCW said, do what you can. Also its a good reason for getting wasted... if you need a good reason to get wasted over the christm... sorry seasonal festivities.

Cheers guys - I was beginning to think it was the end of climbing as I know it when nobody replied.
By the way G - I didn't get your PM; checked all my email and no message from your received.
Guess I'll be doing more running than bouldering over the next few weeks (mind you I did this while running) and the compensation is that I might lose some of the lard I've been building up. I like to train heavy ;)

Weird, it's in my sent folder. I've sent another anyway.
Don't worry. Most of those carpal bones are dispensible. Get going on it, but expect it to ache for a good length of time.

Is this in your professional opinion, GCW? Or was it more off-the-cuff?

I watched a programme about Morcambe and Wise last night and pissed my sides for most of it - I'm sure it wasn't that funny first time round. Must be age.
-
They were funny at times, but yes it is your age.
Any sign of those 2 PMs?
Edit: PMd you through the wiki too.
