Title: beta on hard to find cds
Post by: Sam on October 03, 2007, 02:49:13 pm
hi all,

any knowledge on where to get hold of seemingly impossible-to-get-hold-of-but-I-know-it's-not-super-rare cds? Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works Vol 1 85-92 everywhere (including HMV) has it listed - no one has it in stock  :'(

online or shops in sheff/manchester  :please:

I'm almost certain I have a copy at home and I could burn you a copy when I get there (next friday). Send me a PM.

I have that, if you want a copy let me know.  I've got MP3 copies too if you want.  PM me or Unc who will probably have lossless versions.
I often see it in the shops.  Odd.

My number one desert island disc. Very strange that you can't find it. Judging from the responses herein, I take it you will get hold of it. If not, I'll add myself as a third contact for help.

I think that this classic is soon to be re-released. You can pre-order direct from amazon.co.uk for £11.99, though how long you'll wait is another matter. As duncan indicates there are a couple for sale via the Amazon Market Place (one "slightly marked" for £9.00 and one for £20).

These tracks have stood the test of time pretty well IMHO.

There's plenty of online shops. Also, try going into different shops (even different HMV shops) regularly. I once walked in to a Virgin store in Bristol and found Hi-Scores by Boards of Canada which I'd never seen in the shops before and is ancient!

(Quite coincidentally, I'm listening to SAW 85-92 now for the first time in ages!)

thanks all especially uncle GCW & monolith - I may well be in touch, but really wanted an original for geeky, obsessive reasons, but thanks again for the offers.

re: amazon/shops etc I have pre-ordered it now on several occasions and the story is the same: order, pay hear nothing for over a month then you get a lame email telling you that they won't be re-stocking despite telling you that it will be with you in 12 working days when you first ordered  :wall:

however, I will check out those amazon links again and report back.

Music Zone went down the drain recently.

Music Zone went down the drain recently.

...........and all their shops were bought by Fopp who promptly followed them down the drain. :(

Which is a shame because Fopp was amazing.

That I did not know.  Shows how down with the kids I am
I'd be surprised if you couldn't get it somewhere though.

Fopp was great and from what I've read the company would have been ok if they hadn't overstretched themselves with the Music Zone shops. It's a real shame.

back before the days of the interweb I used to have to go and spend hours searching in vinyl exchange in manchester. took me months to get a original copy of journeys by dj - coldcut. finally got it and then they re-released it - bastards.
I also have aphex twin selected ambient works on original CD - its a classic

At least you can upload it with your Project kit (any news?).
I love the double album of ambient stuff.  The track listing/ picture theme works far better on vinyl than CD in my opinion.
