Is it possible to embed YouToob etc videos in a post in a similar way to pictures?
I'm not sure exactly what advantage it would hold but just wondered?
Sorry.
-
Would be cool.....
-
I'll take that as a "no" then
-
Hmm sorry, missed this topic - I don't think it would be a good idea to embed videos in the same way you can just link photos - can you imagine the load times?
However, it is possible to install a forum modificaton that would allow you to embed the youtube player. If this is really desirable then i'll look into installing it.

Like I said, I'm not sure how desirable it would be. For the Brownstones Wiki (http://brownstones.wetpaint.com) it works nicely with the embedded YouTube stuff, but that isn't a forum. It would save clicking external links all the time, but that's it.
More an idle wondering than a request.
Any other opinions?

It would be nice to have, but wouldn't stop people from simply posting external links anyway.
After all not everyone can use the current bbcode for inserting links and pics, so a proportion wouldn't use it. On the other side of the coin there are many who are profficent in using bbcode.
I guess if its not going to affect the bandwidth on the hosting server or cause any problems and it isn't too hard to implement then why not implement it.

Embedding youtube doesn't affect my bandwidth, only theirs :)
I'll have a look at the necessary changes

Cheers Bubbs. Don't go out of your way though, it ain't so important to merit a lot of work.
-
Ok, it is done - please leave the size as default and you only need the last bit of the youtube url, in this case "6s44KOINBB0". Just click the youtube bbcode icon when replying (http://ukbouldering.com/board/Themes/default/images/bbc/youtube.gif)

ps i may try to do something similar for Stage6
-
look forward to seeing stage6 supported. Nice one Bubba.

Nice one!!! And that is some quality throttle control. Last time I did that I went through a hedge.

Hello. The youtube icon seems to have disappeared. Being a total computer dunce means I now have no idea how to embed videos. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Bubba set up the software that runs the forums (Simple Machines Forum) to automatically parse and embed YouTube URLs (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,9457.0.html).
Thus simply copy the URL from the address bar and paste it into the appropriate location of your post.
