Any ones i've tried seem to be populated by geeks arguing the toss over minute technical issues, while not seeing the bigger picture (if you excuse the pun).

Anything specific you are after?

Not sure if your still after recommendations, but there are various groups on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/) associated with most cameras.

Owning a Nikon D50 I find the discussion on the Nikon D50 Users (http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikond50/) group quite useful (I think from another thread you've this camera as well?).

Not sure if this is what you are after - more about photography rather than equipment...which are obviously deeply intertwined but you know what I mean. There are some reviews of equipment, some about technical concepts, and arguments about what you can really get out of your kit to counteract all the online ignoramus pixel comparisons based on shlock science.
