im slowly learning how to play bass.
a lifetime dream coming true.
the first song i learned is the wind cries mary, the first thing i did is put on my bass the special forces sticket that the clash guitarist had on its guitar.
boldererz band?
-
i play the guitar, just like every other musical mofo out there! Self-taught, don't play anywhere near enough nowadays, plus thin fingertips from climbing and guitar strings don't mix...
-
These days I play 6 string steel acoustic and a Weissenbourn lap-steel guitar.. mainly country/blues/bluegrass fingerpick style and open tuning slide guitar on the lap-steel.
I played Bass (fretless) for ten years but rarely pick it up these days as I don't play in a band although I could if I needed to.
I'm reasonably handy in the studio and can programme analogue synths, samplers and navigate my way around DAE's like Logic 'n stuff like that but I'm spending more time grappling with my guitar these days and don't want get sidetracked with bleeps...
-

Are you Street Tuff?
-
the weekend saw nibile master the bass part of "when a blind man cries" by deep purple, and "killing in the name" rage against the machine.
im sure you care.
-
Everybody shake yo'self, the rebel's here and heeeeeee's street tuff! I think such ol skool klassix were a bit before sasscotty's time :). Played the guitar til I got a pair of technix then I disappeared into da jungle for 5 or 6 years; found my way out via new skool breaks and a nasty case of permanent tinnitus. Now I pick up an acoustic guitar from time to time. Find the finger tip callouses I've built up mean the fingertips on my left hand never split when climbing.
-
hehe well im only young dude iv just started to learn the acoustic guitar today its well hard any tips?
-
"any tips?"
No, not if you practise hard enough... ;-)
I play/have played acoustic/classical/spanish guitar, bass, violin, piano, drums. Jack of all trades, master of none. Apart from classical guitar.
-
im learning to play the guitar at the moment can any one give me any tips please
-
In honour of the newest addition to my stringed instrument collection I've changed my avatar to the Deering Deluxe banjo that I bought two weeks ago. I've been grappling with it for the last couple of weeks and can now do a clunky but passable rendition of Cripple Creek and Old Time Religon... Yeehaw! 8)
Mrs FD has made me take an oath that I'll never set foot out of the house with it - she's very embarrased.
-
Have some waddage for the banjo; I assume you have a porch, a rocking chair and a spitoon to go with it?!
-
You should bring it to the crag I reckon, and then play your best rednecks-in-strawhats-chasing-chickens-round-the-veranda whenever anyone displays bad footwork. ;D
-
Stubbs... I have a back porch and a crazed aggressive dawg so do I get more waddage?
JB... Martin suggested that too... it's really loud and would go down a treat booming out at Malham when someone sets off on a nerve wracking redpoint ;D
I'll see if I can get some in on Westies video if he's not finished it yet...
-
I used to play the snare drum in a marching band in the wild days of my uber youth
-
;D
Quality. Got a sitar yet FD? Duelling Banjos time!
Dare you to take it down to Horse Pens.

Burt Reynolds' finest moment, except maybe canonball run and the superb boogie nights. Anyhow - I digress.

In the late 80's/early 90's I used to play bass in an indie rock band before they kicked me out for unreasonable behaviour/musical differences (and then made a record: cunts). No I won't tell you the name of that band... But during my tenure I formed a drum & bass scum-rock duo with the drummer called Thin Lash.
I'd post an mp3 if a) I could, & b) I wanted to hurt your head. But I don't.
-
I'm also a bass player and if i might say a bloody good 1.

Long time no speak FD :devangel: I had never heard of a Weissborn until just now when I read the thread, and oddly was just talking to my good lady about taking up my Fender steel strung acoustic guitar and actually learning to play it, rather than fondling it for 6 years making wishes.... I found This Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve-P7m_wDTA) and it was something else...
Thanks Mate- there's the inspiration I needed, I'm off to book some lessons!

Great video Underground... thanks for the link. It's great to see a lap-steel being played in a different style rather than in a Blues or Hawaiian way.
I've just picked up my guitar again after not playing over most of the Summer.
If you are thinking about chucking away the plectrum, you can't go wrong with some of the instructional DVD's from here http://guitarworkshopuk.com/new.htm..

I'm the odd one out; a violinist (and I wrote midi files from scratch but thats too far).

Now bearing in mind i had a 35 minute walk to and from school i didnt last long. The missis is quite fly on the piano though. Junior fellow in acommpaniment at the RNCM.
