any ideas anyone? looked on a few dodgy websites seems everything is well expensive. Something a bit nicer than formule 1 would be good and within staggering distance home from nice bars.

not stayed in font town itself - if you phone the font tourist office theres always someone who can speak english, probably your best bet.
-
your best bet is above the curry house next to the fair. quite good n cheaper than everywhere else. doesn't stink of curry so don't worry. when are you going? we may be going this wkend coming, if there is a god

Hotel Ibis is the next step up from the Formule 1. It's 40-50 euro for a double (you could probably get a pull-in bed for a third too). Breakfast is another 5 euro. It is right in the center of town 1 block north of the carousel. 00 33 164 2345 25.

We looked at that hotel above the curry house and I don't think it was very cheap. Dense knows how much it was.
F1 is sound for 23 euro's a night for 3 beds (plus whoever you can sneak in throught the window and fit on the floor!

46 euro's a nite for double, 41 for single. i was told it was about 15 quid but again this turns out to be crag rumour

Sorry that it is bit late for your needs but the ETAP is probably the cheapest option in Fontainebleau itself. It is just up the road from the Font/Avon SNCF station and next to the Champion Supermarche.
It is apparently once class up from a Forumula1 and just below an Ibis (Run by the same Accor group)
34 euros per night for up to 3 people. You get a TV and your own shower and toilet.

The one above the Curry house the marharaja is the Hotel Richuler (sp) and we've stayed there a lot, quite nice and reasonably cheep with a big car pack around the back, a bit more than the one above but there you go!
