The Peak Park have just announce the closure of access land due to fire risk. Public rights of way remain unaffected.
Fire risk closure to Access Land - Extreme Red Heat Warning ⛔️
The risk of fire on the #PeakDistrict Moors has now reached a critical level, unseen for many years. As a result, public access has been suspended from all Access Land until this risk has reduced.
Access Land can be indicated by signs similar to those shown above, and temporary closure signs may also be in place. Whilst the fire risk remains exceptional, Access Land should not be entered until further notice.
Public footpaths are unaffected.
I'm just working on clarifying this for crag access. Obviously the most important thing is not to start fires, so no smoking or bbqs or discarding glass, and use common sense.
As real as the issue is this is very much a blunt stick and crags are often on sites that can be ambiguous, with crags adjacent to rights of way traditionally ok - however post-Covid I suspect there may be a zero tolerance vibe from the righteous demographic. That aside...
All of Burbage should be ok except Leaning Block on Higgar and Secret Garden.
Roaches same but I would not be surprised if the Wildlife Trust interpret it as a climbing ban - there was a big wildfire here in recent years.
Froggat and Curbar are not actually access land but reached by right of way, so should be unaffected.
Bamford and Derwent likely closed completely, assuming someone informs the Insta-hordes.
Baslow closed. Birchens closed.
Gardoms not access land, but reached by crossing it unless you come up from below.
Stanage depends on your definition of adjacent and right of way; Crescent arete to Causeway area ok. The public footpath on top doesn't appear to be an actual RoW, and the path below High Neb etc is not exactly adjacent, but has remained open when the access land is closed for grouse breeding. But Popular end may be closed.
'All access land' would suggest it affects the Dales too - Ravensdale, Moat buttress, Cornice WcJ and Central buttress most obviously.

PS it should be revoked as soon as it rains.
Edit: or possibly when the temps drop as forecast. Doesn't look like guaranteed rain anytime soon.

Hopefully there aren't any BBQing idiots out this week, would be a huge shame to have a fire take hold from something so easily preventable.

Picture that is emerging that this was not really Peak Park decision based on risk-on-the-ground, but an automatic measure based on the Met Office warning. Given that is expected to only last today and tomorrow, they won't be putting signs up just 'raising awareness'. So should be revoked as soon as temps return to normal.

Yup - just went for a walk round the village and it was very hazy and could smell the smoke in the air. Hoping they’re able to /were able to stop the fire :(

That does seem understandable owing to fire services being a bit busy with significant parts of the country being on fire right now.

Saw the ladybower fire this afternoon or what was left anyway, still smoking lots. Also glimpsed a much larger fire towards woodhead pass as well. Helicopter with a big bucket went over head.

Saw some people with a fire yesterday evening at Damflask - mind boggling, not least because of how hot it was I can't imagine a reasonable rationale for needing a fire...
