Hey, I'd like to replace the metal wire that holds the gate open on my clip stick (too short, never works with my petzl spirits) but I'm drawing a blank on where I could buy lengths of suitable, straight wire.
Anyone got any ideas? I've used tinned copper wire in the past in electronics and I'd just put it in a vice and pull like fook on the reel to straighten it but I don't really want to be buying a massive reel and I assumed some sort of strainless steel would be better. Can't think what type of shop would sell it.

wrap a bit of finger tape around the section of the wire that holds the gate open.

Thanks for the suggestion Nai. I may well do it for a temporary solution but wouldn't mind fixing it properly as I'm sure it would only take 15 mins.

or do the 60 second tape fix 15 times ;)

We have 3mm rod but that will be far too thick I imagine. Maybe some of our thicker weld wire would work?? I can stick you a bit in the post if you want, say 20cm?

That's very kind of you Nik. I've measured and it's 2mm diameter wire. Could have a search on ebay I suppose, what doesn't that site sell?!
-
Hmmmm, I doubt we have any 2mm filler wire, but I'lol have a look on Tuesday. PM me your address and I'll send you a snurtle of whatever seems most appropriate.

I've got a length of 1.6mm 316 stainless filler wire here looking for a delivery address if you want to try it.

Coat hanger - fixes everything.

Hang around the Foundry and ask Tony Whitehouse nicely? (or find him FB).
