Sorry if this is really obvious. I've tried looking at pictures, but can't quite work it out.
When sat down, in the back of my leg I can feel two big chunky non-bone things which seem to attach to my knees at one end, and disappear into the back of my upper leg (arse end). There's two per knee, with the outside one being bigger. Hope I didn't use too much jargon there. What are these called, please?

Lateral and Medial Hamstrings?

Ah rite that makes sense, thanks. I think that wasnt showing up when I searched for pics of knee anatony, cos its not really part of the knee? Do people really rupture those? That's a frightning thought; they're massive!

I guess so. Runners often whine about injuring them, but I don't do any of that shit (running that is, not whining). I guess you can rupture anything if you try hard enough.

Stuff in the body breaking really is nasty. I was browsing the internet the other day and came across this gem... ruptured pectoral! Fuuuck!!

When I was 16, I fractured the ischium at the tendon attachment. My hamstring and tendon were strong enough to evulse(right word?) the attachment point. I couldn't sit for about 3 weeks....

Case Study #6 on the right is about what my xray looked like.
Since then, I've had an odd right hip which I'm sure will cause me no end of issues when I'm really old.

My friend did playing football, his entire upper leg bruised up and swelled!

not often, and usually not completely, and (i think) usually at the inferior attachment
