If the fox hunting is off what about some bouldering?

When are you thinking? And where?

Bosley cloud on Boxing day?

Helsby hilltop?

The Scouse Massive usually have a Christmas day out and we're thinking round about the 23rd December this year. This is not an exclusive event by any means and given the current in vogueness of Lancashire I wouldn't be surprised if we were heading those ways...

Not sure if Sloper could handle the scallyness mind...

Keep me in the loop on that one Si!

Bosley Cloud certainly has better views than the Breck.

Pex Hill has the advantage of being dry and with an easy walk in, plus a taste of scally.

The 23rd works better than boxing day, if the conditions are good what abou Blackstone Edge?

Period between boxing day and new year works best for me if its a factor

Sounds like a grand idea to me, wherever the venue.

Met a couple from Warrington up at Blackstone the other day and discovered it took them less time to drive there than it does from Bolton!

I think the venue should at least be in the county.

OK, what's the walk in and range like at Bosley cloud (the guide is in the bog as is the wife)?

Well as the famous quote goes... The best gritstone climbing in Staffordshire is actually in Cheshire. It's a pleasant walk, a great view, and a small circuit of easy problems with a couple of hard classics. Also a clutch of classic routes. It may be very green depending on weather. No better spot to watch the lights come on in the Potteries and across the Cheshire plain.

OK what about a 2nd choice if it's as green as?

Would love to be able to head along but will need to keep an eye on the possibility closer to the time. Fatneck, please prod me beforehand as I know I'll forget amidst the house move.

Can I suggest some basis standards of etiquite

1. Someone should crash their car on the way to the meet.
2. Someone should have an absolute strop when failing on an easy problem and kicksomething thereby breaking a toe.
3. Tweed shall be worn.
4. For non drivers a properly filled hip flask is mandatory
5. For drivers a flask full of good coffee shall be brought.
6. There will be mandatory banter which ideally should stop just short of a s.5 POA offence with bonus points for getting someone to fall off as a consequence of laughter

Given past Christmas climbing experiences, I'll probably be 1.

The hustling people off problems game is a classic. The easier the problem, the more point you get. It also works on a sliding scale, so it's not many points for making a 6A climber fall off a 6A, but if you make an 8A climber laugh off a 6A it's a huge amount of points.

Bang on, I can't remember who it was, but I was pottering around The Grand Hotel at Stanage when there was I think every uner wad known to liggers about anywya, Dave Simmonite mentioned he'd lost his virginity at 13, my immediate response was 'giving or taking' followed by someone very good falling off the start of NTBTA.

We're looking at the 23rd here, venue open at present. Going to speak to Skinny Dog tonight. Reckon we're flexible about venue if plenty of other are about - never been to Bosley Cloud though...

Yes, the 23rd works for me,

Shall we 'call the venue' at 12;00 on the 19th, now who could be the caller?

In principle yes, but if folks want lifts then we need some notice.

I will be driving from Altrincham unless anyone is able to give me a lift (I promise no politics / law)

If I've got a lift then I will certainly be bringing a hip flask of something warming (and some mulled alcohol free cider for the non drinkers) not a winter meet without a cigar and a drop of something strong.

Liking the sound of alcohol free mulled cider as I've got to drive back to Wales after.

I can finally reunite you with your moccasyms from the 2007 UKB N Wales meet too Tom  :2thumbsup:

Christ, was it that long ago?

The Sandstone suits me more than the N Wales bouldering, I should be able to get up a few things this time.

Sacrilege!

Mind you, with the constancy of the rain recently there is going to be very little dry over this way.

Why don't we just all go to the pub instead? :)
(Esp as I can't climb..)
Title: Re: Cheshire Christimas meet
Post by: Sloper on December 19, 2014, 09:35:33 am
The forecast is looking rather poor and the pub may be a better option, suggestions therfore for a venue.

1. It must be close to public transport.
2. It must be a good pub
3. It must be as easy as possible for folk to get to

Given 3 my view is central Manchetser and I would propose The Knott Bar or Cask (right by the tram / near the railway and both substantially twat free (until I turn up at least)

OK the proposal is Cask on Liverpool Road at about 13:00.

Plenty of opportunity to on-sight right on up into the 8s (% alcohol that is).

If we haven't met imagine what George Clooney would look like when painted by an 8 year old, add a cigar and that's me.

I will be there, looking like Brad Pit* wearing a grey curly wig and leather elbow patches.

I'm not sure I meant to post that. But in the mood of xmas joviality I'll leave it up.
