Title: give me a look, it's the butchers thread.
Post by: Sloper on June 02, 2014, 11:24:52 am
Since a good butcher's shop seems to be a bit of a rarity I thought I'd spread some knowledge,

Warwickshire & N Oxfordshire, it has to be Aubrey Allen, quite simply superb.

Cheshire, we stopped at the Artisan Meat Company and I have to say I was impressed, properly >30 day dry aged rib of beef, bone on for about £15 per Kg.

I might stop and buy something when passing somewhere (particularly when on holiday), but don't really have the time to go traipsing around buying food, I'd rather go climbing instead.  For those who are time limited and/or don't travel round the country looking to purchase things....any chance of including links for delivery?

Aubrey Allen (http://www.aubreyallen.co.uk/) <- Link to delicatessen website currently returns an error though.

Artisan Meat Company (http://www.theartisanmeatcompany.com/) <- Online shop opening soon

Whenever I visit my parents in Leicester I make a point of hiking the fifty yards to Woods of Clarendon Park (http://mfwood.co.uk/)

In the south west of Manchester I’d recommend W.H. Frosts in Chorlton. Thye butchers of choice for those in the know and suppliers to the majority of local restaurants (and a fair few further afield).

Delivery is only local I believe (sorry Slackers....)

Had a box from these guys recently. The lamb noisette one. Bloody tasty. Still got the diced venison in the freezer. Any thoughts?

This is the place if you're passing by Glossop.  Absolutely brilliant.. http://www.mettricksbutchers.co.uk (http://www.mettricksbutchers.co.uk)

I have a really great butcher nearby in Kensal Rise but none of you live in West London so it's not much use. http://www.brooksbutchers.com (http://www.brooksbutchers.com)

Picked up some of this farm's free-range pork at a food fair and it was really good stuff: http://woodhousefarm.co.uk (http://woodhousefarm.co.uk)

I'd second this, its pretty unassuming tucked away in the little precinct but its very good.

Another good bet for high-welfare meat is Packington (http://www.packingtonfreerange.co.uk).

They don't sell direct but have a number of agents including Roneys in Sheffield and also sell via Ocado (http://www.ocado.com/webshop/getSearchProducts.do?clearTabs=yes&isFreshSearch=true&entry=packington).

I bought a 2kg loin via Ocado to make bacon and it was really good.

The Wirral has: Edge & Son Butchers They butcher Cheshire Wildlife Trusts conservation grazed beef and lamb. The meat I have had from here is superb and worth the journey.
