Can we get Ron in a preacher man costume?
-
I'm sure that can be arranged. All you need to do is find a costume that fits over his massive 'ands and I'll do the rest..
-
That looks fucking cool :)
-
We will get on-line ticket sales sorted out early next week. I reckon this will sell out so get your tickets ordered

Rumours of a complete sell out of the 300 special edition copies have been exagerated! Outside at Hathersage still had 12 special edition copies available yesterday for pre-order.

We have a few (not saying how many) from our stock. We kept them back for deserving idiots such as Dobbin the amazing IT guy (previously known as Idiot Boy until he set my new computer up today in no time).
But you have to be a deserving idiot to get one.

Word on the street is that we will have heating in the Works by the end of November (only in the seating/changing areas though) so maybe you should ammend that to something a little more appropriate. I thought maybe...

+2. The Bee MC did it for me.

My copy arrived yesterday. I've been nearly incommunicado since opening it. Think of any great climbing coffee table book, this is better. An instant classic. Magnificent work gentlemen.
-
The launch is now sold out. Anyone who left it too late, well tough :boohoo:
-
What a brilliant night.
-
What a brilliant night.
Agreed, was great to hear some of the stories! Looking forward to starting the book.
-
John Allen was a star
Grimer: What was the new route you most regret not doing?
JA: End of the Affair. I had a top rope on it early on and thought it was a brilliant route
Grimer: When you heard it had been done did you feel things had moved on ?
JA: No, I just felt bitter...
-
Yes - a top night. Massive props to all involved.

Was this deliberate?
I was allowed to open mine and confirm it was signed before it was secreted away until the 25th.
-
was this filmed?
-
Yes it was. Johhny's rant will have the bleep machine working over time.

FFS have we really reached the stage where video evidence is required as proof of not opening a Christmas present?

It was an epic night. Big Ron was on top form also.

If people doubt you its up to you either not to care or give proof. With the availability of camera phones do people really have an excuse in this day and age not to give video proof of not opening presents?
-
It wasn't filmed, I rode out on my bike and had a look at it at 6 am. A spanish guy called Juan Derekson spotted me and can corroborate if you can track him down.
-
Anyone care to give more context detail re: Dawes for those of us who weren't there? Or is it something I need to see for myself?!

But what if you have a strong track record of not opening things spanning a number of years? Surely for someone of Chris's stature in not opening circles this should be enough. I personally have never seen him open a bag of crisps, a supermarket or the batting for England. Why claim a Christmas present when there are bigger prizes which he could easily have professed not to have opened? This is turning into a witch hunt.

it'll be on video, I won't be watching it ever again. This is what happens when your heroes don't die at 27...

In brief. Grimer asked the audience for questions to put to the legends. Some Geordie goon piped up with the regrettable “Why isn’t Johhny up there?” After an awkward silence G had little choice but to invite JD up on stage. JD was duly located and invited/hauled up. He was clearly radjed about something, maybe not being invited up in the first place, who knows. Anyway Geordie boy soon got his question comprehensively answered. The stunned audience (and panel) were treated to a ranty dressing down on how disgraceful the whole event was etc. etc. In a bid to diffuse things a little G suggested JD take some audience questions. Mark20, and you’ve got to hand it to him it was a ballsy thing to say, shouted something like “Why were you out wire brushing at Stanage today?” JD demanded he come to the front and present his question up close, which he did. More heated words. Various heckling ensued. Eventually it took a stern word from some guy called Ben Moon to get JD to leave the stage. He was last seen disappearing with from the building Mark20 I think!
-
It don't think it was heckling really. GME asked Johnny a question to try and help him out of his rant and it was pushed aside. It was pretty sad really, we all know JD has issues and it was a shame to see it all laid bare in public. All a bit ugly really but Grimer did a bloody good job in a difficult situation.
-
well summarised

they had went for a cup of tea and listened to Chopin...

In brief.
Too brief: the 'beanie' comment to another heckle question was sooo him. I found it all a not untypical Johnny rant: he always looks at things differently, certainly nothing to do with him being alive and over 27. A bit embarrassing maybe, as he clearly had a beef with something, then got wound up even more but it didn't spoil anything for me. How could it with everything else going on there. Well done to everyone involved again a great celebration of a work of beauty fit for beautiful climbs on beautiful rock
A big up to Mark20 for walking to the front straight away. Maybe they kissed and made up outside (especially if he bought a book).
-
Those of you who were there last night might have seen a couple of parishioners bidding for a copy of High Peak 1st Edition. The book is quite valuable but the 2 idiots who were bidding for it were just doing it to raise money for the Mountain Heritage Trust and for personal ego. Plus of course the fact that one of the idiots (me) had a 4-0 home record at home against the other idiot (Falling Down). So I wanted to make it 5-0.
So I 'won'. £450 :clap2: beating FD's bid of £425. Today FD has come out of the closet and said he is an anorak, and that he wants the book and will buy the book off me if I donate it to CAC. Of course I will.
Nice one Fonzie
-
Bloody hell £450 for a book! Does it come with a dvd for that?
-
Beats paying for a crappy calendar...

Fucking right. I open on my own terms and for myself (and jars for my family, when they are hungry) and I don't need to have my claims questioned by the Sheffield opening mafia.
-

Any idea when the video will appear for those of us who did not attend.

Yeah, those are the two presents I bought for my wife this year. I assume everyone else is doing the same.
I think she'll be particularly pleased with the scribbled crayon I got JD to sign the book with

One of the biggest surprises on launch night was rolling out Steve Bancroft at half time for some a musical interlude.
He introduced himself with "when Phil called me I thought it'd be him, his mum and a couple of others"... there were actually over 250 people there on the night. Must have felt like a stadium gig to Steve!

-
It was at this point ^ when I walked back in from outside and started to feel like I was trippin' balls. What a legend, Allen and Bancroft were already heroes of mine but now the myth meets the reality.
-
And...Sloper was there.
He had Fawcett on Rock for Ron to sign

Well Santa bought me this yesterday. What a book. I also wasn't expecting it either which made it sweeter. Easily the best thing VP have done. If only every climbing area had something like this, Yorkshire next please! My four word review would simply read - lovingly and lavishly produced.
Massive well done to all involved living and not. Made my Christmas.
-
Finally got my signed copy, plus Nick Bullock's Echoes and Julian Lines' Tears of the Dawn. See you all in March!
-
Best christmas present I got. Nice one gents.

Patta told me the full raw version would also appear somewhere.

Another one for your viewing pleasure, this time it's Steve Bancroft on lead guitar.
