I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss shooting interests being responsible either. This govt is allowing wealthy shooting estates to declare war on our native raptors to protect their rich friends pheasant shooting.

this year they had to use the freedom of information act to find out that licences for this had been granted, and buzzards already been killed on shooting estates

I think it is fair to dismiss shooting interests in this case. I was helping to ring Peregrines at a different site last week and the ringer told me one nest they monitor had been robbed six years on the trot. The sixth year the perps were caught on CC tv, tried and got '20 hours community service', as their defence - that Peregrines aren't rare any more - was accepted by the judge. Apparently one was ex-RSPB! Sounds like the majority are shipped out to the middle east - falconry has been the sport of the sheikhs for centuries.
