Well the contract for search and rescue is out to tender nationwide (http://www.dft.gov.uk/news/statements/greening-20111128/) which is what I was thinking about.

Anything particularly special about Portland? (Other than someone has started a petition to save them)

Not especially other than it's fairly key for climbers and that someone has started a petition.
