Title: Alex Honnold Solos El Capitan*
Post by: duncan on May 23, 2012, 09:21:29 am
*OK is was only the West Face but even so...

Tom Evans reports (http://www.elcapreport.com/content/elcap-report-52212) Honnold climbed the route roped and then came back the following day and soloed it.  Crux was the 8 mile hike out to the road!

I don't think anyone has soloed the West Face before even though it is relatively straight-forward by current standards.  The route doesn't seem to attract as much attention as it deserves, I thought it was one of the best I've done in Yosemite - the rock is much more featured than the usual glassy granite - like a giant Welsh E4.

I think perhaps Peter Croft, Tim O'Neil or Dean Potter may have soloed this before, could be wrong though.  Amazing effort all the same!
