Title: Locking off on undercuts
Post by: cheque on March 20, 2012, 11:20:59 am

I've identified a major weakness these last couple of weeks- I get pumped rapidly when required to lock off on undercuts. I'm not exactly a lock-off beast but there's definitely a big difference in how long I can hold myself in between when my palms are away from me and when they're towards me.

Does anyone have any advice on how to train endurance on this specific type of grip? My first thought is french pullups on my beastmaker the wrong way round (ie facing the back of the board- mine's in a doorway so this is possible) and I'll be trying this tomorrow (badly needed rest day today) but any other suggestions/ knowledge would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Crank out some bicep curls at the gym!

Chins (using underhand grip) would be a better option to curls, but sounds like your going to try that anyway on the BM.

Above and beyond bicep training then deadlifts !! The answer to everything  ;)

Seriously - its a great method to train transfering power through the full system to your feet so you can stand up in undercuts and hold them.

Do you have access to a systems board or a woody where you could just practice locking off on undercuts?

Stubbs, are you seriously suggesting that actually locking off on undercuts will make you better at locking off on undercuts?

Have you got access to a yoga mat?

Sorry Stallion, I got lost there for a moment, what I meant to say was Bolton Complex and Downward Dog.

Strong biceps AND strong core for underclings in my experience, because often it's easy hold the position but it can get very hard to move the feet.
I'd go for some system boarding.
And deadlifts (but as of late I would advise them also for cooking a better pesto).

Sadly no.

Cheers for the advice guys. I'll see what a bit of Beastmaking does for it and maybe get some weights going.
