Title: South Lakes Lime Virgin
Post by: andy popp on October 16, 2011, 03:43:47 pm
Might get a chance to check out some South Lakes Lime on Tuesday. I've never visited any of it; what should be my first port of call? I'm nursing a slightly crook finger so a nice moderate circuit would be good.

Cheers,

Fairy Steps and Warton Plum Buttress should be good shouts with plenty to do at amenable grades if your have a dodgy finger Andy. You may still get a bit done at Woodwell although it may still be suffering from recent rain. Trowbarrow could be dry - Red Wall may be worth a look in if it rains a bit.

Warton is a nice spot with some nice problems (could be a little awkward to find first time by yourself?). Fairy Steps has access problems right now I think??
Red Wall at Trowbarrow is a reliable fallback option if it starts raining.

Just make sure you go with an open mind - pessimists have and will be disappointed with most of the climbing. There are some lovely spots, just nowhere anything like as good as Harmers.

Woodwell actually has a load of good mid-grade stuff. More vertical and slightly highball with a few landings where you might want a couple of pads. The hard roofy stuff is generally well fingery, but you can have a nice time there old skoolin it. Cafe nearby too.

I'd be a little careful with Fairy Steps in the current state of access.

Weather permitting i'm going up to plumb buttress about 3 on tues afternoon if you want a guide up to it (only done voodoo people there currently so can't really extend the offer to beta on things once there though i'm afraid!)

Thanks everyone, doesn't look like it will happen now anyway - but hopefully be up that way soon.

What, if anything, is likely to be dry tomorrow?
