Title: Gothenburg?
Post by: andy popp on May 28, 2011, 09:28:45 am
Anyone know anything about climbing near/in Gothenburg? I'm there for a few days for work start of July - I think there might be some bouldering virtually in the city?

Cheers

Bohuslän is pretty close and is seriously good, mostly trad but some bouldering also, worth checking out for sure.

The coastal boudering up the road at Hönö is pretty good, the local wall were handy for directions etc.
I prefered the rock at Norrköping and Linköping though, lots of new development if you don't mind a bit of drive, again just contact the local walls.

I went to hono in summer a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised.  There's not a huge amount there and the rock is a bit slick for hot weather, but there was more than enough to keep me occupied for day out.  It's also just a nice place to wander around by the sea, although I think it was about an hour and half drive from the centre of Gothenburg.
There's a swedish topo for hono here: http://gbo.crimp.se/omraden.php?oid=1# (http://gbo.crimp.se/omraden.php?oid=1#)

I've not been but Utby looks good and is just on the outskirts of the city - might be a bit better if you're pressed for time.  The topo is here: http://gbo.crimp.se/omraden.php?oid=2# (http://gbo.crimp.se/omraden.php?oid=2#) and there seems to be plenty to do.

Cheers, both, very helpful. And Ding Dong has put me in touch with a local so fingers crossed something should work out.

I'm also heading this way soon for a few days, anyone know if there's any established DWS?  All I can find is lots of references to lads jumping off the cliffs, the likes of this (http://http://www.flickr.com/photos/sophiaimalmoe/333230003/#) looks like it could be mint though.

Utby is good and only a 10 min drive from the city. If I remember correctly it's got a bit of a mixture, mainly trad with some bolts thrown in for good measure! Nice swimming in the lake above it too if its hot  :2thumbsup:
