Anyone one know if the plantation boulders are likely to be in this weekend?
Also anyone know if I will able to get my shit in snow car up there from hebdon bridge?
-
Dunning said it was -10 last monday morning up there, but it should be better by the weekend. doesn't sound like he had any car problems though.
-
Mainly concerend about getting the car up past the scout hut its a bit steep from memory. If its looking dodgy I can always head up to bridestones instead.
-
I doubt Bridies will be in nick this weekend TBH. Snow melt wetness would be my prediction.
Dunno about Widdop, but I suspect the road will be fine, serious amounts of thaw round here today.
-
Roads are all clear around coldwell so reckon getting over will be fine.
-
there isn't any access to Widdop coming from Hebden Bridge due to the road being closed for a water main installation, its is back open in April. Access is still ok going the Briercliffe/Thursden way.

Would anyone be in a position to comment on the likelihood of Widdop plantation being boggy at the mo? Want to pop up tomorrow...

Was there today, it's fine.

Hello,
A slightly general Q about Widdop - as I've only been a handful of times...
I'm thinking of heading up on Friday - and given the week of rain/showers we've had - wondering if it'll still be fine. I would have thought that Widdop is fairly fast drying (exposed, good quality Grit, no drainage lines running over the rocks etc..) - so probably all right. But wondered if there was any local knowledge to the contrary?
I guess under some problems can get wet (Splashdown, Pool traverse are the clues!!) but that aside...???
Thanks TT

it dries pretty quickly, especially if there's a bit of wind about.

Hi Tomtom,
You'll be fine, so long as it's not actually raining.
Remarkably quick drying in the wind.
Take a tarp though unless you want a dirty back.

Excellent. Thanks Rich.
But the top of Fight on Black usually needs longer to dry, can sometimes still be gopping wet.

Indeed :) as I found out :D Still I know I can do the problem now!
-
Problem is, once you've done FOB, what is there to go back for?!

I know! I came off the top twice when I tried it. Still never been back to finish it off.

I recall a fraught combination of groin-grinding and rolling sideways when I managed it - not something I could ever "showboat"! I suspect if you're tall, the top-out is the crux (so long as you can crimp on pebbles).
My previous post was slightly facetious - any recommendations re the off-plantation stuff? I had a look once but was not impressed enough to return. I am hoping that I caught it in damp and grotty conditions and misjudged it - as I would like a compelling reason to return (the sheltered location make it a useful venue in the inevitable baltic winter gales).

The top looked perfect at the weekend.. Clean slopers on the arête.. But not today! The sun doesn't get onto them any more (I know I watched!). Looking at the odd video around the top doesn't look that bad if it's dry... Shirley reach up the arête for better slopers and Rock over on a high lf?
I had a look at the v6 up a big slab (next to a big crack - but didn't try it) and the crimpy one left of Splashdown.. But slopers were too damp today..
-
Watch my FoB vid. I was crapping it!!
-
BUgger. This is going to be like West Side Story all over... manage the 'technical' part but then flail on the topout... still its not as high as WSS...

Softer landing...

:) I've plenty of psyche for FotB - as long as it doesnt have a damp break!
-
That day I did it was scrittly as hell, shat myself on the top. Same day as Jordan did Widdop Wall. :beer2:
-
Ffs. Just back from a failed Widdop mission. Hoping for some FotB action but it started drizzling in Hebden - then by the time I got oop top it was snowing! Bah. Not much wind so sacked it off as tops of boulders were soaking....
