Or indeed any shoe with rubber over the toes. I'm looking to mod some dragons by sticking more rubber on them
Preferably in Sheffield so I can come and pick them up
Cheers
-
You can probably smell my old ones from Sheffield.
-
i've got a couple of old pairs of v10s kicking about.
-
Thanks for that Chris, think I'll pass :)
Cheers Ben, will grab them off you at some point. If this works then I'll mod a pair of your dragons for you with the glue I've got

with the glue I've got
pray tell?
Quite psyched to see what you make. I've been pondering about doing something with untouched pair of dragons as the Teams don't seem to fit me very well and laceups are a ball ache for bouldering.
-
I've ordered some Shoegoo. I have the same issue with the teams Paul. Basically the dragon is my perfect shoe apart from the lack of toe hooking abilities.
At the moment I've butchered a pair of these

have you also noted how much of a bitch they are to get on?
I'm not quite sure why they never ran with the V10 with the strap as per Keenus. I'm not keen on any of the 5.10s with the slingshot heel and single strap (project / wet7), and the teams just don't fit. Moan moan whinge whinge etc.
Nats mum has done an awesome job of helping us upholster bits and bobs in the van. I'm thinking she won't have too much trouble modding the hell out of some dragons. I was going to go velcro + toe mod.

Has anyone done a similar thing, with rubber from the sole of some old shoes rather than a specifically designed toe thing... or in fact Dylan, are you thinking about just using the Madrock heel for the toe section? I've got some old Velcros with holes in the toes, but was thinking about taking a thin strip, and sticking it over the top of the toe of another. Do the ridges help/work/really make a difference?
-
I think ned had quite a lot of success using the 5.10 liquid rubber stuff. He did say it took a bit of care to get it right.
Drew: Have you not seen the doylo wonder shoe? When isn't 'ribbed' best? :-[
-
I'd like to see the finished product, can you post some pics once you are done?
-
The liquid rubber stuff is A:expensive and B: only available to heros.
Doyle has a Madrock heel on his toe (Weirdo). There's also a place in Japan that does mad mods on shoes with 5.10 rubber. I thought that they all had prototype shoes and then realised it was an aftermarket affect.
Will post up with results and a how to

Would bulk out the wiki (http://ukbouldering.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) nicely.

I've found shoe goo works ok but then tends to start to peel away from the shoe, I've had better results applying a small amount of epoxy resin and then the rubber held in place overnight with a woodworking clamp or something.
-
I stuck a piece of Mad Rock heel to the toe of an Anasazi Velcro using fast setting epoxy resin (Araldite). Worked really well, saw a fair bit of use and is still going strong. One downside is that to get it to not affect the fit of very tight shoes, plus to get it to adhere well, you really need to wear the boot while it cures. Using the fast setting stuff helps here, but the unforeseen problem was that the heat from the reaction burnt the top of my toes. Tip - wear a thin heat proof sock when doing this, or make a mock up of your foot and do it using that (or stuff the boot with newspaper!).
-
I used araldite two part super glue, as nige says it helps to wear the show when gluing. Makes toe hooking easy!

one the lads round here has been filing rubber off old 5.10s and mixing it with shoe goo plastering it over holes then filing it off.seems to work.
