Watched the Arena programme dedicated to Brian Eno and damned fascinating it was too ..... My problem is now do I laud him for his creativity when working with Devo , Laurie Anderson etc , or do I loathe him for taking that same creativity and making bands like U2 and Coldplay sound so much better than they would without him producing them ? ......

uber wad you fule!
i watched this at my sister kitty's on friday night, about an hour after she'd made us both a rather strong cup of mushroom tea. the first half of basically continuous music was a-mazing; lost it after that and just dribbled in introverted fascination as teeth fizzed and the televisual environment swallowed me
will watch again, i think it's repeated tonight on bbc 4

Total legend, no argument. Great, will have to watch it on the iplayer. Went to a preview at the Showroom a few months back, followed by an interesting q&a session with the producer and director. They discussed how he sees his commercial and personal work as equally valid, just a different set of rules making a different challenge.

He is indeed a legend , and his own music as well as his collaborations , 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts in particular , will stand the test of time ...... I guess he has to pay the bills like the rest of us , and making U2's lumpen tunes vaguely palatable must be one hell of a challenge .....

Eno producing U2 and Coldplay is like the little bit of local anaesthetic that makes root canal work more bearable.

Surely the two are not mutually exclusive. A Wad can still be a bastard.
